Every year, the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22 with the aim of spreading awareness about the need to protect the Earth and its resources. It is also a time to reflect on our impact on the planet and think about ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. The choices we make every day can have a big impact on the environment, so it’s important to be mindful of our habits and make changes where we can.

Here are 4 simple ways to reduce your carbon footprint and live a more eco-friendly lifestyle:

Go sustainable

By choosing local and organic foods, you’re supporting the local economy and helping farmers while reducing your carbon footprint. Supporting eco-friendly businesses and products that are made from sustainable materials is also another great way to be kinder to our planet.
You can also support businesses that have environmentally-friendly practices, such as reducing waste and using eco-friendly transportation.

Reduce your transportation footprint

Carpooling, using public transport, cycles or a fuel-efficient car are great ways to reduce your footprint. Transportation is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, so even taking small steps to reduce your transportation footprint will go a long way.

Reduce your energy consumption

Simple changes like turning off lights when you leave a room, using energy-efficient light bulbs, and unplugging electronics, when they’re not in use, can all help reduce your energy consumption. You can also consider installing solar panels or using renewable energy sources to power your home.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle

The three R’s are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. Try to reduce the amount of waste you produce by buying products with less packaging, or by using reusable bags, water bottles, and coffee cups. When you do have waste, make sure to recycle or compost as much as possible.

At Donatekart we believe in supporting and empowering NGOs/individuals who are working hard to make this world a better place for all of us. Whether it’s Rakesh Khatri’s Eco Roots Foundation, an NGO that has been working tirelessly to conserve the ecosystem, environment, and biodiversity, or Manthan, a non-profit, that works in the driest part of Rajasthan in India to help marginalised communities who are deprived of water, crowdfunding has played an important role in helping them with their missions.

Rakesh Khatri was able to get nearly 80,000 rupees worth of eco-friendly nests for birds and Manthan was able to get over 5 lakh worth of construction material for the water tank they wanted to build, all thanks to the kind donors on Donatekart.

This Earth Day, you can support similar causes on Donatekart and do your bit for our planet.

Making small changes like reducing our carbon footprint and supporting NGOs working towards environmental causes can help protect the planet for future generations.
