The recent disaster in Turkey and Syria has left countless people struggling to survive. Thousands have lost their homes, livelihoods and their loved ones – and the numbers are only increasing. The photos from these areas are heartbreaking – little children crying out of fear, people stuck under the rubble, and neighbourhoods reduced to dust. The earthquake has destroyed everything and left the people of Turkey and Syria with no hope.
While organisations from across the world have offered their support through relief work, another factor is proving to be vital in ensuring essential supplies reach the people in the impacted areas – crowdfunding. Whether it’s citizens taking it upon themselves to send relief material to the consulate or donating on platforms like Donatekart, people are going out of their way to show their support.
Over 1000+ people have already come together to support this cause and raise over 13 lakh worth of products which will be delivered to the Turkish Consulate. These products include mink blankets, tents, sweaters, food, sanitary pads, medicines, milk powder and more. These have been delivered to the Hermes Cargo Unit, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad as per their instruction and will be sent to Turkey on Feb 13, 2023.
The response towards campaigns like these is proof that crowdfunding could be one of the easiest ways to help those in need during a disaster. Donors can donate products on Donatekart with just a few clicks.
Over the years, we’ve seen a fair share of disasters and crises that required an immediate response. Whether it was the pandemic and the urgent need for oxygen cylinders, concentrators, PPE kits, grocery kits and more, or the devastating Assam floods last in 2022, crowdfunding has been a huge factor in ensuring that people not only get help in time, but are also able to stand up on their feet again.
Donatekart’s swift action is not just limited to emergency needs during disasters. Campaigns during the impending cold wave in Northern India were of great support to hundreds of people on the streets who were struggling to stay warm. Blankets and winter clothes were distributed to the underprivileged through our on-ground NGOs.
Providing help to families in distress even after the disaster is just as important as many of them lose their homes and belongings. In these times, grocery kits, hygiene kits containing soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more go a long way.
It’s during times like these that kindness truly shines and we see the real power of people coming together, no matter which part of the world they are in.
The people of Turkey still need support. Donate here to give them hope during these dark times.
