World Animal Day is celebrated every year on October 4th to raise awareness and support the well-being of animals across the globe. Animals, just like humans, deserve to live a life of dignity, respect, health and happiness. And this day not only recognises their importance but also reminds us of all we can do to help them.
At Donatekart, we’ve always been strong advocates of animal rights. We’ve worked with NGOs and individuals across the country to ensure thousands of animals are given a better life. This World Animal Day, we decided to ask #PetsOfDonatekart a little something about themselves and who their favourite animal activists are. And the answers, as imagined, were super cute!
Lucy, 2.5 years old
Paw-rent: Arunima Bhattacharya
What’s your favourite thing to do?
Besides zooming around the house and being fed by my hooman? Sunbathing on the balcony all by myself. There’s nothing like some me time.
How would you describe yourself?
Cool and sassy. That’s all. (Miranda Priestly is my spirit animal)
Who is your favourite animal champion?
Simran Walia. Her mother and she started an animal shelter in Naigaon when she brought home an injured puppy a few years ago, and now they feed so many doggos, cats, and other animals every day. One day, I’ll meet Simran. Who knows, maybe I’ll even let her pet me!
Coco Agarwal, 15 months old
Paw-rent: Dishani Agarwal
What’s your favourite thing to do?
Give me a pillow, a crisp white bedsheet and a comfy bed, and it’s the best sleep I’ll ever get!
How would you describe yourself?
My hooman says I’m spoiled, but I believe in living my best life. I’m protective (you have to get past me to get to my hooman), resourceful (planning to clean the house? I got it covered) and lots of fun.
Who is your favourite animal champion?
Sajesh! He started ALAI rescue in Bangalore and because of him, so many animals have been saved from accidents, illnesses and injuries. If I ever get to meet him, I’ll give him one of the socks from my secret stash for good luck!
Maya (3.5 years old) & Jaanu (10.5 years old)
Paw-rent: Aaron Kota
What’s your favourite thing to do?
Maya: Have you ever tried tearing bubble wrap and cardboard? It’s the best feeling ever!
Jaanu: Protecting Maya! And eating flowers. They’re quite tasty!
How would you describe yourself?
Maya: Friendly, calm and Jaanu’s favourite
Jaanu: Loving, calm and fearless
Who is your favourite animal champion?
Both: We love Anjali Gopalan! She’s dedicated her life to helping animals and it’s so nice to see how loving she is towards them. We can’t wait to meet her and tell her how much we look up to her!
Kubo, 6 months old
Paw-rent: Charita Cariappa
What’s your favourite thing to do?
Napping, playing fetch and drowning my toys in my water bowl. How else do I show them who’s boss?
How would you describe yourself?
They call me naughty, but all I want to do is play! I’m fun and cuddly and whether you’re watching TV or doing chores, you can always count on my ah-mazing company.
Who is your favourite animal champion?
Girish Anjenappa has saved many animals, and I think that’s very inspiring. He’s given them a home when nobody else has, and I want to tell him what a big impact that has on the lives of us animals. When I meet him, I’ll take my favourite toy with me so that we can play for hours together! (yes hooman, I hear you. No bites, I promise)
