Support Akshaya Trust In Helping Old People

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

For 20 years now, Gopalan has been working towards one mission - giving abandoned elderlies hope during the last few years of their lives. Today he is a son to hundreds of senior citizens who have no one else to call family.

Helping old people - Support Akshaya Trust in Giving home and food to all the Abandoned Elders - DonateKart

“All these parents have toiled all their lives to give their children a good future, but when they need them the most, these very children abandon them. Is their value only when they are physically and mentally able to provide for their children? Don’t these parents deserve to be loved, especially towards the end of their lives?” - Gopalan, Founder, Akshaya Trust

Akshaya Trust Is Their Home For Life

Gopalan, an industrialist, started Akshaya Trust in 2001 and has given a home to hundreds of elderlies since then. He currently looks after 160+ senior citizens, around 30+ of whom are completely bedridden. Akshaya Trust operates in Chennai as well as in Mudichur, Pallikaranai, Valasaravakkam and Palavakkam.

“Even though they’re struggling and are in pain, they know that I will take care of them no matter what. That’s the trust they have in me, and I don’t want to let them down.”

After a lifetime of responsibilities and duties, these elderlies are abandoned by their families as they’re considered a burden. Many of them are too old and weak to fend for themselves, they’re thrown out of their homes, have no shelter or food and suffer from severe illnesses. Many of them die a sad, lonely death. This is not the life they deserve.

Senior Citizens - Some Happy moments for elder people at Akshaya Trust - DonateKart

At Akshaya Trust, abandoned elderlies are given food, shelter, medical care and a life of dignity. With 4 fresh meals a day and regular medical check-ups, the residents here are finally in comfort.  Akshaya Trust operates in Chennai as well as homes in Mudichur, Pallikaranai, Valasaravakkam and Palavakkam.

Kindness Has Kept Them Going, But Now They’re Struggling

Before the pandemic, Akshaya Trust saw many visitors who wanted to spare their time to bring a little happiness to the lives of the elderly. Their efforts went beyond donations as they would spend time with the residents, play games, perform for them and have conversations with them. But the pandemic changed everything.

“We’ve struggled to get the same kind of support for the last two years now. These are tough times, and people have their own families to look after. And these elderlies are my family. Without your help, I won’t be able to continue giving them healthy meals every day. Your support will ensure we never have to worry about feeding these parents.”

Gopalan now needs help to get grocery kits so that he can continue to give the 160+ elderlies nutritious meals.
