Project
AU Foundation has been working tremendously hard to enhance livelihoods, empower rural communities and they aim to build a stronger nation. The Corona crisis has hurt the livelihood of thousands of daily wage workers across India. The crisis is elevating as the numbers are increasing day by the day. The stringent measures taken by the government has made it impossible for daily wage workers to earn their income. Amidst the Corona crisis, many families are starving and are locked in their homes. AU Small Finance Bank, through its employees and customers, is providing groceries to Pure India Trust, Rajasthan Samagr kalyan Samstha, Voice of Slum and other NGOs across India.
Disasters, it takes them one second to uproot lives. India’s largest segment of the labour market is the unorganized sector. Many of the villagers come to cities to learn work and manage to earn their livelihoods. Masons, carpenters, construction workers, rickshaw drivers, taxi drivers, and the list goes on. The lockdown due to the Corona outbreak came crashing down on them.
“Work just disappeared”, said Maurya, a 17-year-old plumber.
Thousands of workers are on the brink of starvation. Security guards and workers in the malls were sent home suddenly. The schools have been shut down and auto drivers have no source to earn their livelihood.
“I depend on school kids. I drop them to school in the morning and then pick them up at home-time,”
explained Bhuiyan, a rickshaw driver.
These daily wage labourers can hardly afford to feed their families even when they have work. Now, without any work, they’re on the brink of starvation. “Starvation will kill us before corona”, said Bhuiyan. Their life is a daily struggle and the Corona virus bombarded their homes and hit their stomach.
They need our support to feed their families. With the severe shortage of food across the country, many of the labourers with little money have no resources to buy any food.
The beneficiary NGOs are going to distribute groceries to feed more than 4000 families across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra. These northern states have a high rate of poverty and contribute a large portion to the labour force in India.
The lockdown was declared by the government to keep the citizens safe yet has hurt the livelihood of many hardworking individuals from marginalized communities.
Donate groceries to the daily wage labourers. Save their families from starvation.

3. Seva Kitchen - The idea of calling it Seva Kitchen, came with some deliberation. The name, quite literally, draws on the traditional value of selfless giving - a desire to serve or doing Seva. Although we started off by making meals accessible to relatives of patients in the hospital, the term Seva Kitchen continues to cover a broader aim of addressing hunger needs. Towards this guiding principle is the belief that every kitchen, in every town, village or city is a Seva Kitchen. The provider of food to those who are hungry, because every meal counts!
Tackling the Corona crisis:
There is a severe shortage of food across Delhi and other cities in India. The people from marginalised communities cannot afford to buy food. They can hardly feed themselves during normal days. The lockdown is slowly pushing them into starvation. Nagpur Municipal Corporation requested many NGOs in Nagpur among which Seva Kitchen has volunteered to help these families from marginalized communities. Your donations will help feed 200 families of construction workers and slum dwellers during the lockdown. They are working responsibly towards distributing the food to the families.
Where is it located?
Seva Kitchen. 127, New Colony, Nagpur - 440001, Maharashtra (India).
4. Excellent Education - We, at Holy Star English High School, managed by Dilshad Education Trust, are catering to a population of 1450+ students, i.e., approximately 800-1000 families through our school. We are a school that believes in reaching every single child in society and providing them excellent education towards a successful life ahead. We ensure that no child is out of school because of the financial problem and deprived of the knowledge he/she deserves. We have been doing this for the past ten years since 2010 and will continue to do in the future.
Tackling the Corona crisis:
As you all are aware of the current crisis, the country is facing due to the lockdown imposed to ensure safety amidst the Coronavirus disease. Due to the lockdown, we have been continually receiving calls for help from the parents whom we cater to through the school. The parents, most of them are daily wage earners like rickshaw drivers, artisans, electricians, labor, food and vegetable seller, etc. These people are the ones who have been severely hit and are running out of food stocks. Its a battle for survival from the Corona as well as the hunger for them and their families.
