Affecting Real Change is a grass roots charity that works within local communities and facilitates responsible volunteering opportunities in the developing world. With permanent offices and staff in the UK, India and Africa we are able to monitor our projects long after our volunteers depart ensuring sustainability in everything we do.

Groups in GambiaAffecting Real Change was established in 2002 by Alex, Phoebe and Jeremy who have undertaken over 40 volunteer projects around the world between them. As passionate philanthropist’s they strongly believed that volunteers should be absorbed into the community in which they are based in order to get the most from their experience. This approach ensures that volunteers form unrivalled relationships with their hosts, experience the local way of life and invest in the local economy. Such an approach has continued to this day and means that we can offer our projects at a cost to our volunteers well below that of many other voluntary organizations whilst ensuring that every volunteer is fully supported.

In 2010 Affecting Real Change was registered as a UK registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1143942) and shortly afterwards as registered charities in The Gambia and India. As a registered charity we are able to work in conjunction with Government departments to ensure that all of our projects are worthwhile and are fully supported by local staff and communities.
