These Kids Deserve A Better Future, Help Akshaya Chaitanya Feed Them Warm Meals

Countless children in our country starve on the streets. They’re forced to beg to fill their stomachs. They’re malnourished and suffer from various diseases - reports show that Maharashtra has the highest number of malnourished children amounting to almost 12 lakhs. Even two square meals seem like a dream to them. This is not a life their parents must have imagined for them. Do you want to know how you can change that?

Based out of Mumbai, Akshaya Chaitanya is an NGO that works relentlessly to make food accessible to the needy across the city by serving them hot, nutritious, locally palatable meals prepared at their state-of-the-art FSSAI compliant kitchen. They believe that feeding the hungry is not the goal, instead, it is the means to the goal. By feeding thousands of hungry souls, they want to give them a conducive environment so that they can follow their dreams and live a fruitful life. 

They work for the marginalised, aiming to give them a better life

An initiative of HKM Charitable Foundation, Akshaya Chaitanya is undertaking three key feeding initiatives: Swasthya Ahara - government hospital feeding initiative providing free, unlimited, nutritious lunch to patient's family that keeps them healthy and helps them save for medication;  Paushtik Ahara - meals on wheels initiative providing free, unlimited, nutritious lunch combined with education prepares children in slum areas for a bright future; Bal Shiksha Ahara - government school breakfast initiative providing free, millet based nutritious breakfast that helps in better learning.  

“All these three programmes have their own significance. The Paushtik Ahara initiative is carried out in the slum locations across Jogeshwari, Goregaon and Poisar. With your support, we plan to expand this initiative to two more critical locations - Pydhonie and Mankhurd. We are serving around 350 children right now, their happy faces are the biggest motivation for us,” - Mr. Vikas, CEO, Akshaya Chaitanya.  

Mr. Vikas, a native of Punjab, was surprised to see so much hunger and poverty when he came to Mumbai for his first job. He wanted to do something for the underprivileged and when he got an opportunity to work with the Hare Diety Movement to eradicate hunger, he didn’t think twice before quitting his job as the VP of Reliance Jio. 

The NGO has also partnered with an NGO to educate hundreds of slum kids with their initiative - School on Wheels. School on Wheels is a mobile classroom created by modifying a bus with all learning materials including audio-visual educational tools. And food for children will boost attendance and bring regularity from the most unreached groups of out-of-school children i.e., street children and pavement dwellers. The bus reaches out to children in locations and construction sites where it is not feasible to build even a temporary classroom.
