Project
“I was only 3 when I lost my vision. And since then, I have seen the kind of discrimination that people face because of no fault of theirs. However, despite all my struggles, I persevered and went on to finish my education. And that was when I realised that I had to do something for people like me, who have been suffering like me,” - Professor Dattu Agarwal, Founder, Ambubai Residential School For Visually Challenged Girls.
In 2007, he founded the Ambubai Residential School For Visually Challenged Girls in memory of his mother. This school in Gulbarga, Karnataka started with just four girls. Today, it has 100 girls who work hard on their studies day and night in the hope of a bright future. Dattu Agarwal wants to give them the best education he can.
No one wanted to give these girls a future, not even their own families
“I started the school because there were no schools here specifically for visually challenged girls. They have to go through a lot already, they deserve a good education and access to the best resources. But now I’m struggling to do this on my own.”
Dattu Agarwal wants to give these girls nothing but the best. The current school is in a building that is not challenged-friendly. There is a constant risk of the students falling or getting injured. Hence, Dattu wants to build a safer, challenged friendly building where the girls can have the right infrastructure with modern amenities.
“I want them to grow up to be well-respected human beings. The stigma and the discrimination that they have faced needs to be washed away by the love in their lives that they deserve. But for that they need to be educated with the best of resources and I need your help for that.”
Dattu Agarwal needs your help, donate now
While Prof Agarwal was able to start the construction of the new school building, he was forced to stop due to the lack of funds. The pandemic and the rising cases have only made things worse. They also get several students requesting admission, but due to the lack of space in the old building, they can't be accommodated.
Dattu Agarwal now needs your help to get construction material and continue building a new school that can accommodate many more girls and give them a chance of a bright future.
Your help can go a long way in changing the lives of the girls already studying there, as well as the ones who would join them in the future. You can make a difference in their lives.
