Help Visually Challenged Welfare Society To Empower Visually Impaired Women

There are some people who are born fighters. No matter what life throws at them, they persist. What makes them even more special is their empathy and drive to help others. Ram Prakash Bhola was one such man. Despite being born with a visual impairment, he never let his lack of sight come in the way of his dreams and purpose. 

R.P Bhola was the first visually challenged principal of a secondary school in the country. He completed his post-grad despite braille material being unavailable, and worked in the field of education for 35 years, overcoming numerous challenges and discrimination. After his retirement, he worked hard to give the visually challenged equal opportunities and then founded the Visually Challenged Welfare Society in Delhi - an NGO working towards education, training, and empowering young girls and women. 

Visually Challenged Welfare Society is home to girls with visual impairments, who come from all over the country seeking help. Its mission is to make them self-sufficient and independent enough to stand on their own feet. They take care of their every need for free- whether it’s food, clothes, education, employment, and even medicines. At least one girl from the welfare society gets a government job every year, due to her sheer will and determination. R.P Bhola believed that these women don’t need pity - they need equal opportunities so that they can live their best lives. 

Many of the girls who come to Visually Challenged Welfare Society lack the support and access to study and build their own lives. They are often considered a burden by their families and have nowhere to go. R.P Bhola wanted Visually Challenged Welfare Society to be their home, where they not only get the right kind of support but also find a family. 

Visually Challenged Welfare Society has been giving girls with visual impairments a safe home for years, but the pandemic proved to be a difficult hurdle for them. They continue to struggle to afford meals. They faced another tragedy when their founder R.P Bhola passed away in December last year.

About the Organization

Visually Challenged Welfare Society is a non-governmental voluntary organization registered under the societies registration ACT of 1860. It was founded to undertake various activities for the welfare of the visually impaired persons. BWS aims to support visually impaired persons through its programmes and projects. BWS is providing free residential services to those visually challenged persons who are pursuing their studies from different schools/colleges/universities.
