Help Visually Challenged Welfare Council Uplift People With Disabilities In Remote Gujarat

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

Imagine waking up one day and not being able to see the world around you or not being able to do all that you love? Just the thought of that can be worrying. But this is what thousands of people with disabilities face every single day. For people from poor families, the challenges are only increased. They don't have access to even the most basic essentials that they need and don’t have enough opportunities to support themselves.

However, time and again, the courageous and inspirational stories of people with disabilities have proved that it is not about things that they can’t do but about all those things they are fully capable of doing. This is a similar story of courage, determination and grit.

Visually Challenged Welfare Council (BWC) has been working relentlessly in the most backward part of Dahod-Panchmahal districts of Gujarat. Their sole mission is to help people with disabilities and make them aware of their rights.

For over two decades, BWC has been making a difference

The Dahod-Panchmahal districts of Gujarat are home to thousands of tribals who haven’t had proper education nor do they have proper income. Underprivileged and poor, they spend most of their days starving, unable to feed themselves. The disability rate is quite high in these areas because of the lack of nutritious food, awareness and illiteracy among the tribal population.

Around 20 years ago, there were hardly any NGOs working to help the people in this area. Visually Challenged Welfare Council was established in August of 2000 and comprised 11 trustees. 8 out of them are visually-impaired and are well-versed with the challenges of people with disabilities. Since then the organization has made it its mission to uplift the

the challenged, so that they can become independent and live their life with pride and self-respect.

“Pity and sympathy are not what these people need. What they require is empathy and a chance to be a part of mainstream society. And this is what we help them do with the help of proper training and educations, skill development and a holistic approach to give them a life they deserve,” - Dr. Yusufi Kapadia, General Secretary (BWC).

The organization not only works with people with visual impairments but also with hearing impairment, mental retardation, loco-motor disabilities etc. With nutritious food and proper aid, BWC aims to make them self-sufficient.

    You can support them now

BWC wishes to give people with disabilities opportunities so that they can have a better life. They want to spread awareness about their rights and how society needs to be inclusive about them.

You can come forward and donate groceries and education materials for the specially-abled. Even a small contribution will make a huge difference in their lives.
