Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Project
Even today, there continues to be an immense amount of stigma around menstruation. Lakhs of girls and women are unaware about menstrual hygiene and countless have no access to period products. Over 28% of girls miss school during periods due to this and there continues to be significant effects on the lives of women in rural India due to period poverty.
Avni, along with the Child Help Foundation are determined to make a difference to the lives of these girls and women. Last year alone, they distributed more than 2 lakh sanitary pads in government schools across Maharashtra, along with advocacy sessions on menstrual hygiene. This year, they want to do more with your help.
Avni’s Efforts Have Been Relentless
Avni , a brand focusing on menstrual hygiene and period products, wants to distribute sanitary pads to girls in rural India. Avni is reinventing the way menstruators experience their menstrual cycle. They take a modern approach to the time tested, ancient ways of managing menstrual cycles with high quality natural ingredients. They’re working hard towards creating a world where period poverty doesn’t exist and menstruation isn’t considered a taboo. They have products ranging from cloth pads, cotton pads, menstrual cups and intimate wipes among others, all of which are skin safe, eco safe and zero waste.
With a mission to make sustainable menstruation easy and accessible for all, Avni ensures that 8% of their profits go towards empowering women and girls with education and good quality products. They also partner with social enterprises and individuals across the globe. Every cloth pad of theirs is hand stitched with love by women in rural India - giving them a chance to be financially independent. These pads are also antibacterial.
Avni now wants to reach out to more girls across the country and give them access to sanitary pads.
Avni Is Teaming Up With Child Help Foundation
Started in 2010 by Sunil Varghese, Rajendra Pathak and Jugender Singh, Child Help Foundation (CHF) is a child centric organization that focuses on the basics such as education, health, food and shelter. Through their Sanitation Support Programmes, CHF has facilitated the construction of separate toilets for boys and girls in government schools across India. They also set up sanitary napkin vending machines for tribal teenage girls and women in the predominantly tribal areas of Jawhar Taluka, Maharashtra. This along with the distribution of pads saw an increase in enrollment rates and attendance of teenage girls.
