Jaya Wants To Give Hundreds Of Abandoned Girls A Safe Place To Call Home, You Can Help

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

These children have seen their mothers being harassed, abused and physically abuseed. Society has already abandoned these helpless kids and it is absolutely unfortunate that they have to go through this pain and humiliation. They deserve happiness and love like any other child and here at Chaithanya Mahila Mandali, we give them a home and help them fight poverty and hunger,” - Jaya Singh Thomas, General Secretary, Chaithanya Mahila Mandali.

She took her troubles in her stride and forged ahead to make a difference

Jayamma grew up an orphan. After a difficult childhood, she finally met a man she loved and got married. This man, over the course of time, took to alcohol and forcibly sold Jayamma to a broker for s*x work.

The path that lay ahead of her was full of danger. She faced tremendous physical and mental trauma. But eventually, decided to rise from the ashes and used her experiences to take up the cause of women in the same situation she was in.

With the help of Jaya Singh Thomas, Jayamma began to slowly go about meeting these women, speaking to them, and collecting their stories. Coming from the same background of suffering and exploitation, she could empathize with them and convince them that their cause will be taken care of.

Finally, on 1st December 2001 (World Aids Day), Jayamma and around 300 women took out a rally and spoke about their cause to work the betterment of the life of s*x workers and their children in Hyderabad. That was the start of Chaithanya Mahila Mandali.

She has been a force to reckon with. It is because of her that I have been able to learn so much about these children who need our help. Their living conditions are not ideal but they are brimming with potential. With a little support from our side, they are sure to have a great life for themselves.”

Through this initiative, more than 5000 women and children are being supported.

You can help Jaya Singh help many more in need

Jaya Singh Thomas is working very hard to take forward Jayamma’s dreams of helping the needy and the abandoned. The current shelter home has around 40+ girls who are being well-fed, given the best education and all their needs are being taken care of. They are being given all the opportunities to lead a better life - one different from what their mothers have been forced to live.

But we want to help many such girls who need us. That’s why we want to build a second floor to our shelter home. We are certain that it will help us look after around 150 girls in need. Along with this, we would also need groceries to continue feeding them warm meals. Your support will make such a huge difference - these girls will get a second chance at life.”

Fate may have given them a painful childhood but with your support, hundreds of abandoned girls can get a better life in Chaithanya Mahila Mandali. Every donation counts.

About the NGO: Chaithanya Mahila Mandali was founded in 2001 by Ms.Jayamma a s*x-trafficking survivor and by a dedicated social worker.
