Project
In 2018, Shyam Shrivastav faced the toughest battle of his life - he was diagnosed with rare condition at its most relentless stage. He was told that time was not on his side, and to prepare for the worst. But Shyam decided to stand up and fight, even though his body was giving up on him, his mind remained determined.
“When I heard ‘stage 4 rare condition’, I thought it was the end. This is an aggressive disease, and it breaks you down like nothing else. I would vomit almost ten times a day, unable to eat even a single bite of food. I couldn’t even stand on my own. But I somehow summoned the strength to walk to the bathroom by myself… I can’t explain what that feels like,” recalls Shyam while holding back his tears. “But a few months later, there was a miracle. I started to recover. And I was handed a second chance.”
Shyam didn’t let this second chance go to waste. Instead, he decided to empower countless poor children in Uttar Pradesh and continues to do so even today.
Driven By This Newfound Purpose, Shyam Has Embarked On A Mission To Feed Hungry Children
Today, Shyam stands not just as a survivor, but as a transformed soul. During his hospital days, he crossed paths with an inspiring woman who dedicated her time to supporting rare condition patients, having battled the disease herself. This encounter ignited a realization within Shyam—there is nothing more important than extending a helping hand to others.
“That’s when I found the purpose of my life. I’ve been in recovery for more than 5 years now, and every night I go to bed knowing I did my best for hundreds of little children who have their whole lives ahead of them. These children barely have two pairs of clothes, some not even that. They survive on little to nothing to eat…but they are so bright and full of joy. I knew I had to do something for them. I started feeding them just before the pandemic began, and now the volunteers and I feed over 100+ children in the Jansa and Rajatalab areas every day.”
Not only do these 100 young souls depend on him for their daily meals, but Shyam also ensures they’re taught general knowledge, math, hygiene practices, and more. Shyam wants these children to also have the power of education and lead a better life.
“They’re all from such poor families. When we go to feed them, they all come running towards us, there’s so much happiness, relief and hope on their faces. No matter what happens, I can’t let them down.”
Shyam Needs Our Support To Continue This Noble Cause
Shyam is now struggling to continue this effort on his own. A few of his family members have been supporting him through donations so far, but it’s just not enough. Shyam wants to give these children fresh meals every day.
“We can never imagine what going hungry feels like, and these kids experience it every single day. I’ve seen so many of them facing so many health and developmental issues because of hunger, but now after getting regular meals, they’re getting stronger. Your contribution will truly change their lives.”
Donate groceries and stationery today to give hundreds of poor kids in UP the childhood they dream of.
