Project
The lockdown has been tough for us. We've been cooped up in our homes for over two months. However, we have the ability to work, cook and eat. But, what about the strays? The stray animals in the last two months have been fighting to survive.
However, help poured in from across the nation and we were able to feed more than 20,000+ stray animals. The lockdown may be easing a little, we're entering into what could be the hottest summers we've seen till now.
Cities will be filled with cars, vehicles, and the temperatures will be skyrocketing. Stray dogs can be found on every lane, road, and even on the highways of India. Dogs are left out on the road without being neutered or spayed, thus increasing their population at a rapid rate.
According to the WHO, in 2018, there were more than 35 million strays out on the roads of India. These strays have nobody to look after them or to take care of them.
In 2019, states like Delhi have recorded temperatures of up to 48-degree celsius. Many of us have homes where we can spend our hot summers where we can cool off. However, there are stray animals that wander the streets in hot and humid summers looking for a place of shade. They find their refuge under cars, near piles of sand, construction sites, buildings, and so on.
Dogs, like humans, are made up of 80 per cent of water. They lose the water content in their body through sweat, urine, paws, and even saliva. If they lose too much water, they can get very sick and die. Stray dogs in the summer are violently exposed to the risk of dehydration.
It starts with you. You can donate a dog bowl and help keep these strays dehydrated throughout the summer. We have been partnering with various NGOs who work towards providing a better life to stray dogs. The NGOs will be placing the dog bowls in and around areas with stray dogs.
Quite often these stray pups resort to drinking from dirty puddles and stagnant water. This can be dangerous for them as the water might be filled with various germs and bacteria. These bowls that you're contributing towards are made of clay. They're organic and are harmless to these innocent creatures.
They too need clean water like all of us. Can you help them?
Donate a dog bowl and save man’s best friend!
Beneficiary NGOs:
1) Charlies Animal Rescue Center - Charlies Animal Rescue Centre – CARE established in January 2013 is home to animals of all kinds which includes dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, ducks and a calf. These animals are permanent residents of CARE due to their varying needs and special conditions – visually challengedness, differently abled, paraplegic, serious ailments, aged and who require constant care, medical attention and love. These animals will live at CARE for the rest of their live. CARE started initially on half an acre of land adjacent to the picturesque Jakkur Lake, later moved to a larger place at Mitteganahalli, Yelahanka. The inspiration behind the trust, is 15 year old Charlie, a differently abled, 3 legged Indian Dog who was an established figure in the field of canine therapy since 2005. Charlie passed away in March, 2017, but has left behind a legacy that the CARE shelter aims to live up to through rescue and rehabilitation of animals in need.
