These Abandoned Elderlies Need Help, This Daan Utsav Bring Joy To Their Lives

Alone, homeless, and begging for a morsel of food, countless senior citizens in India are living in horrible conditions. After years and years of toiling for their families, they’re left with nothing to call their own - not even their own family. Estimates show that around 18 million elderly in India doesn’t have a roof over their heads. The situation is heartwrenching and more and more people are in need of support. 

But there is nothing that love and kindness can’t fix

“My own son refuses to take my calls or look after me. I have spent days crying in pain - I couldn’t believe that this was happening to me. But now, I have accepted my fate,” - Rajni Devi, a resident in an old age home in India. 

Like many other kind-hearted souls, Dev Goswami and his wife, Tara of DAVO have been helping the homeless, elderly, and destitute for the last 35 years. They have given countless people a dignified burial and saved many more lives. 

“I decided to sell my house and use the money to build another shelter for the abandoned elderly. This was also the time when more than 1200 of you came forwarded and supported the residents at the shelter home,” - Dev Goswami, Founder, DAVO.

Cases of elder abuse and abandonment are on the rise in India. Countless senior citizens are struggling to live a life of comfort after giving their all for their near and dear ones. They need our support and what better occasion than Daan Utsav to reach out to them?  

During this week-long celebration of the joy of giving starting from October 2nd, you can extend a helping hand to the senior citizens in various old age homes in India. They require nutritious meals and you can donate groceries to make that happen. Another major issue that plagues old men and women is a lack of voluntary control over the body and bodily functions. Due to this, these helpless elders often soil themselves. It is not just a thing of embarrassment for them but also becomes a hygiene concern. Thus the need for adult diapers, too, is dire and urgent.
