Rescued From The Clutches Of Slaughterhouses, Countless Cows Have Found A Home In Chakulia Gaushala

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

Durga was abandoned by her owner when she stopped producing milk. All of a sudden, the poor animal had nowhere to go and didn’t know how to look for food. Desperate for water and food, she started eating rotten stuff and plastic from garbage dumps. But that was not the end of her suffering. Soon she was huddled together with hundreds of other cows and being transported to a slaughterhouse. Luckily, the police intervened at the right time and Durga was rescued. She is now recuperating in the loving care of Chakulia Gaushala of Dhyan Foundation in Jharkhand.

Formed in 2002 to share and spread the gyan of the original and pristine form of Yog, Dhyan Foundation, today is a global phenomenon with centers all across the world where they aim to spread awareness about the authentic path of Yog, as laid down by Sage Patanjali 4,500 years ago. The Foundation is actively engaged in a host of charitable activities including free distribution of food at multiple places, saving wildlife, and looking after injured animals. They have more than 30 gaushalas spread across the country dedicated to creating a safe environment for innocent cows.

This gaushala in Chakulia, Jharkhand, is a sanctuary for cows. It holds the distinction of being the largest of its kind in all of East India, providing a safe haven for over 17,000 gauvansh (cows and bulls).

After years of extreme hardship and cruelty, they have finally found refuge at the gaushala

Many of these cows and bulls have been rescued by the police and Border Security Force (BSF) from illegal traffickers. They come to the gaushala in a malnourished, injured, and traumatized state from their harrowing experiences. The dedicated and skilled staff at the gaushala work tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals.

“We have 15 wards where these animals are housed in clean and hygienic conditions. Our sole aim is to give these animals proper food, water, and shelter so that they get to live the lives they deserve. It is indeed a daunting task but we do our best,”Deepak, President(Managing Committee, Chakulia Gaushala - Dhyan Foundation.

Every day, Chakulia Gaushala prepares a huge amount of food to feed its residents. This includes over 40 tons of dry fodder, 300 kilograms of freshly prepared dalia (a type of porridge), 10 tons of green fodder, and over 5 tons of chokar (a byproduct of grain milling). They want to ensure that all the cows and bulls receive the nutrition they need to recover and thrive.

“We get terrible accident cases - where they have lost their limbs and have been lying in a pool of blood or someone has beaten them mercilessly with a rod and rubbed chili powder in the eyes to round them up and take them in trucks to slaughterhouses. Every day we face new challenges, but we are not ready to give in. We want to continue serving these gaumatas.”

The Chakulia gaushala stands as a beacon of hope and compassion for these animals

These voiceless souls have endured unimaginable suffering. They deserve a second chance at life, experiencing love, care, and well-being in a safe and nurturing environment. Over the years, Chakulia gaushala has been working toward this goal and has been the saving grace of thousands of innocent and injured cows. But there is so much more to do and they need your support for that.

You can donate an ambulance, fodder, and medicines to help save many more lives. With timely medical support, nutritious food, and necessary medicines, these cows and bulls can live a healthy life.
