    Project

“I still remember the day our students, Bhoomika, came to study here. She had lost her father when she was young, her mother worked 2-3 jobs to make ends meet, and Bhoomika was sent to Bangalore to work out of desperation. She was 9 when she came here, and we had to start with the very basics with her. But today, she has cleared her board exams with flying colours!” - Ananth Kumar, Founder, Divya Deepa Charitable Trust .

There are many children like Bhoomika who have benefitted from Ananth Kumar’s selfless efforts. He started Kaliyuva Mane under the Divya Deepa Charitable Trust, to give underprivileged children the home and education they deserve.

There’s A Place For Every Child At Kaliyuva Mane

“In 1992, I settled in Srirampura village on the outskirts of Mysore. It was an economically, socially, and educationally backward place. There, I met three boys who were in 10th grade, but struggled with even the basics of mathematics. I started coaching them, and once they did well, I started taking free classes in the government school for those children who had failed or couldn’t pass their exams. That’s when my journey with education began.”

Kaliyuva Mane, which means home for learning in Kannada, is a free residential, alternative school for children who don’t fit into the conventional education system. Whether it’s underprivileged children, child labourers, school dropouts, children with dyslexia and many others, Kaliyuva Mane’s doors are open to all.

“Mainstream education systems assume that all children are like machines. But these children have varied needs, abilities and interests. And at our school, we try to focus on that. Utmost importance is given to a child’s emotions. We have admissions open throughout the year, give the child time and space to adjust, and even prepare the curriculum based on the child’s current knowledge and age without putting them into rigid classes.”

Along with education, they also provide the children with food, clothing and healthcare facilities. Ananth believes in focusing on a child’s holistic development, with love, care and empathy. And this philosophy reflects in everything they do at Kaliyuva Mane.

You Can Join Him In His Efforts

Kaliyuva Mane currently has around 100 students, all of whom are brimming with great ideas, enthusiasm, and a determination to work hard. These students have seen many hardships growing up, and this residential school is their little piece of paradise.

“I have always been inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo. Their ideas of education and human development have left a deep impact on me, and that’s what I want to impart to the children at Kaliyuva Mane. We take care of all their needs here, so our monthly expenses can be over 4 lakhs sometimes. It’s not easy for me to do this on my own anymore. I need your support to get groceries, toiletries and medicines for our children. These items will help them immensely in staying healthy and happy.”

With your kind contribution, around 100 children can hope for a better and brighter future.
