Army Jawans & Civilians Missing As Deadly Floods Destroy Sikkim, Help Them Survive This Crisis

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

In the aftermath of the heart-wrenching floods that struck Sikkim on October 3, thousands of lives have been impacted. The videos from the state show large-scale devastation as water gushes through the lanes, destroying everything in its way.

The calamity, triggered by a sudden cloudburst over Lhonak Lake and heightened by the release of water from the Chungthang dam, has left 23 Army jawans and over 60 civilians missing, and entire communities in Mangan, Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi districts struggling to survive.

The impact has been severe, with Sikkim's largest hydropower project, the Teesta Dam at Chungthang, sustaining critical damage. Essential infrastructure, including the Toong Bridge and Singtham footbridge, has collapsed, severing vital connections. Army establishments along the Lachen Valley lie in ruins, with over 40 Army vehicles swept away.

The Challenge Before The People Of Sikkim Is Monumental

Roads connecting West Bengal to Sikkim are washed away, isolating the affected areas further. Rescue operations are underway, but the scale of devastation is massive and the people of Sikkim need help urgently. The challenges persist as weather warnings loom large—an orange alert for heavy rain in Gangtok, Gyalshing, Pakyong, and Soreng districts, with a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Mangan and Namchi districts, according to the Indian Met Department.

This isn't the first time Sikkim has faced such a crisis. In June, flash floods wreaked havoc, causing extensive damage to NH10 and leaving around 2400 tourists stranded until the Army came to their rescue. The people of Sikkim have stood strong against this crisis, but they just can’t go on without immediate help.

Now, They Need Your Support To Rebuild Their Lives

Your support towards getting groceries, tarpaulin sheets, water bottles, ready-to-eat food, torches, umbrellas and other essentials will play a crucial role in providing urgent relief, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and assisting in the search and rescue operations for the missing jawans.
