“My grandmother was a passionate animal lover and she was the one who encouraged me to help these innocent animals. They can’t voice their pain, she used to say and that’s why it is our responsibility to look after them and shower them with love. I have been following in her footsteps and working very hard to give these animals a better life,” - Vidit Sharma, Founder, Save A Stray.

While Vidit has been involved in animal welfare since 2014, it was during the pandemic, that he saw hundreds of strays suffer without any food and water. Thirsty, lost, and utterly helpless, they were in real need of help. It was then that with the help of like-minded animal lovers, Vidit founded Save A Stray on 22nd March, 2020. It started with just 35 stray dogs and now they’re feeding over 3500 dogs daily across Noida and neighbouring parts of Delhi.

They cook one lakh meals a month for the hungry animals on the streets

Save A Stray shelter home is a safe place for hundreds of cats and dogs in need. They are being fed regularly and the ones who’re old, injured or even paralysed are taken care of by a dedicated team of volunteers. Apart from dogs and cats, the NGO feeds cows and has adopted a few donkeys who have been abandoned by their owners

“We have set up a kitchen where we cook around 1 lakh meals per month. There has not been a single day when we have stopped our feeding drive - even in the extremes of weather, our team has gone out in vans and e-rickshaws to feed these hungry strays.”

Apart from feeding them, Vidit and his team have also arranged for water bowls across different locations in Noida so that these helpless animals can drink water in this tremendous heat

While Vidit says that he has received a lot of support and kindness from fellow animal lovers, he has also seen horrible cases of animal cruelty. Very recently, they rescued a dog who suffered from an acid attack, another helpless dog was run over by a vehicle and would have not made it but for the help from Save A Stray.

“We have seen so many cases of pet abandonment post the pandemic when people started going back to offices. We have tried to rescue as many as we could but yet there is so much more to do. We need your help to continue our mission.”

As summer approaches, join hands with Vidit and help him look after many more animals

Vidit says that their monthly expenses shoot up to 7 lakhs or more. While he does get help from many kind donors, but it is not regular. He has also been spending 50% of his salary to continue Save A Stray’s work. But the needs are ever-increasing.

“We get so many rescue calls and come across many animals who are in dire need of medical treatment. We want to help all of them. We also want to increase the number of water bowls across the city. For all of this, we need your support. You can help us by donating dog food and water bowls. Even a small contribution will make a huge difference.”
