Devastating Floods And Heavy Rainfall Is Wreaking Havoc In Chennai & Andhra Pradesh, Stand With The Victims

As Cyclone Michaung intensifies and heads towards the South Andhra Pradesh coast from Tamil Nadu, wreaking havoc in its wake, countless families are grappling with the aftermath of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and severe flooding.

According to experts, the cyclone is likely to cross the coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of December 5 as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. 

The situation is critical, and urgent flood relief is the need of the hour 

The dangerous Chennai floods have engulfed apartments and neighbourhoods. Severe waterlogging has been reported in various areas of Chennai and viral videos show scary footage of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses wading through inundated roads and cars being washed away. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a red alert for North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, anticipating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

In the wake of this natural disaster, at least five lives have already been lost, and one person was injured due to the collapse of a newly constructed wall in Chennai. The situation is critical. With an intent to keep the damages and loss of life and property to a minimum, the Andhra Pradesh government has also issued an alert to the neighbouring eight districts -- Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Diety, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada -- in the state.  

Panic and chaos have ensued, especially among the poor, the homeless, and those living in the coastal villages as Mother Nature sets to unleash her fury. Cyclone Michaung is even more catastrophic than the floods Chennai saw in 2015. People are grappling with the fear of the unknown, uncertain about the extent of the cyclone's impact on their lives and property. The time to act is now.
