Join Hands With GUNJAN To Tackle The Raging Menace Of Substance Abuse In India

Mohan* is 45 and he is a regular drinker. He has tried every home remedy that his desperate wife has suggested but in vain. It’s only a matter of time before he slips back into his old habit. This has destroyed his family, his relationship with his 5 YO son and has also made him terribly sick. Mohan wants to get rid of this but doesn’t know how. 

Alcoholism and substance abuse are raging issues in our country at this moment. The Global Burden of Disease Study shows that illicit substances are estimated to have killed nearly 7.5 lakh people worldwide in 2017 alone. The estimated number of lives lost in India was 22,000.  

A recent survey conducted by the National Substance Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS, confirmed that 16 crore Indians consume alcohol and every third tippler needs help for alcoholism. The situation is dire and the reason for worry is that there is a huge gap between patients and the medical assistance that they need.

GUNJAN Organisation for Community Development – established in the year 2003 actively provides community services in the domain of Public Health i.e. HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, Support & Treatment, Substance and Alcohol Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation of people addicted to substances. They also work towards helping the elderlies in need and empowering women and young girls. 

GUNJAN’s dedicated team has hands-on experience of working at the grass root level and have implemented targeted interventions projects for high-risk population groups. They also have community support centers for care, support and treatment for PLHIV.

The organization has been instrumental in supporting the cause of the people in distress and making commendable changes to better people’s lives.   

GUNJAN has been working in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh and helping thousands of people suffering from substance and alcohol abuse. They conduct 24 hours tele-counseling sessions and workshops for sensitisation and awareness among the youth.

Substance de-abuse centres extend support to the people under the influence of alcohol and other substances and have become addicts. GUNJAN extends therapeutic support to them so that they are strengthened to come out of that state and join the mainstream society.
