Project
If you’re passing by the Yavatmal National Highway - 7, you cannot miss Guru Ka Langar by the side of the road. Located near Karanji village, Maharashtra, this langar is open 24/7 and serves free food to anyone who comes to its doorstep. The langar is run by 83 YO Baba Karnail Singh Khaira, a Corona Warrior. During the first lockdown when the migrant workers had no idea how they would return home, over 30 lakh people found solace in Guru Ka Langar.
“So many of them used to come here, tired and helpless. They had walked miles after miles just in the hope of going back home safe. All they needed was a warm meal and a little reassurance that things will get normal again. That’s all I have done for my brothers and sisters,” - Baba Karnail Singhji, head of the Dera Kar Seva Gurudwara Langar Sahib.
For the last 33 years, Karnail Singhji has been selflessly serving countless people
On the 450-kilometer stretch, this is the only place where bus drivers, truck drivers, or even travelers stop by for healthy, warm food. The 'Guru ka langar' is linked with the historic Gurudwara Bhagod Sahib, Wai, which is located around 11 kilometers away in a forested area.
“I was only 11 years old when I started serving people, that’s the only thing I have been doing for so long. This is a place where people from all walks of life, every caste and religion are open with open arms. I believe if we don’t support the ones in need then who will?”
During the lockdown, when the entire country was facing a severe dearth of oxygen cylinders, Guru Ka Langar had started oxygen seva as well. On a daily basis, Singhji not just feeds the poor and hungry but also hundreds of stray animals who come to his langar.
“They know when we feed them and the cows, dogs, cats come exactly during that time. After all, everyone understands the language of love,” - Singhji smiles.
Born in 1940, this man with a golden heart had seen the Partition, the riots, and the terrible hunger crisis that followed. Singhji says that he has pledged to not stop feeding the hungry for a single day. Even on days when he is sick, his 25 dedicated sevaks wake up at the crack of dawn to prepare breakfast and lunch for all those who come to the langar.
You can support this man’s tireless efforts today
Guru Ka Langar wishes to continue their feeding drive to as many people as possible - they’re the only ray of hope for so many people who can’t afford two square meals a day. However, the langar that runs purely on donations now needs your support.
“We never ask anyone for money - there are donation boxes and people donate as much as they can. But lately, continuing this service is getting more and more difficult and so we need your support. With you by our side, we can reach out to many more in need.”
You can donate groceries and help Karnail Singhji feed thousands of hungry souls - one small donation will go a long way in making a difference.
