Donate Meals To Hundreds Of Starving Sadhus In Ayodhya

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

Ayodhya, a city of stories from the past, is one of the most sacred places in India. Its traditions, customs, and ways of life are very important to many, and thousands of visitors come to explore its history and experience its unique culture.

Within Ayodhya's spiritual landscape are the sadhus - deeply devoted individuals who have chosen to let go of all the regular pleasures and possessions that most people value. Instead, they've dedicated themselves to a life of prayer and helping others. However, their own lives are far from easy.

They Suffer In Silence While They Pray To The Almighty

The sadhus in Ayodhya, like every other holy place in India, spend their days in bhajans and prayers. These practices are central to their way of life and help them deepen their connection to their beliefs and the divine. These sadhus have chosen a path of simplicity and detachment, and to survive, they rely on the generosity of people passing through and visiting these holy places. Passers-by and tourists often offer them donations, which help provide them with basic necessities.

However, ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, they continue to fight to survive. With travel restrictions and safety concerns, the number of tourists and visitors to Ayodhya, as well as other sacred sites, significantly decreased. It has been an uphill battle ever since.

Even today we see so many of them starving - they are left with no option but to beg. These sadhus don’t ask for much and try to get by with whatever little they have. But they deserve fresh meals, that is the bare minimum we can do for them,” - Divyanshu Upadhyay, Hope Welfare Trust.

A group of young people who want to make a positive change in society started something the Hope Welfare Trust in Varanasi in 2015. They wanted to help rural villages in India, especially focusing on women. Now they want to help the sadhus in Ayodhya.

After Struggling For So Long, They Deserve Your Help

The sadhus live a life of abandonment. They have no one to look after them. This is our chance to make a difference in their lives. After all, serving the sadhus is like serving the Almighty.  Let us come together and join hands with Hope Welfare Trust to give the sadhus warm and healthy meals. Your contribution is going to make a real impact.

    About the NGO:

Born from the determination of passionate young minds, Hope Welfare Trust emerged as a movement in Varanasi in September 2015. A group of students from diverse universities and colleges united with a shared vision— to catalyze sustainable development in rural Indian villages, with a special emphasis on empowering women. Today, they stand as advocates for the underprivileged, channelling their efforts towards creating positive change. Their key initiatives include collaborating with the Dom community, uplifting the ultra-poor in remote villages of Uttar Pradesh, supporting stone miners, and offering aid to leprosy patients.
