Mugdha Is Saving Countless Animals In Dehradun From A Life Of Pain & Suffering

Mugdha Khatri believes that all animals have the right to live a life of dignity, and ever since she was just 17, she has lived by this and worked tirelessly towards ending the suffering of hundreds of helpless animals. Nestled amid the beautiful hills of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Mugdha’s NGO, Healing Saathi, serves as a sanctuary for sick, injured, and challenged animals.

“I have seen a great deal of cruelty towards animals, but I’ve also seen compassion. Pirate’s story stands as a testament to how kindness and love can go a long way. Pirate was only a puppy when a group of teenagers beat him up, causing severe damage to his eyes. Fortunately, there were some other children who quickly called us and got him rescued. It’s only because of their swift action and immediate medical care that Pirate survived. She Sacrificed Her Career To Dedicate Herself To This Cause

In just a few years, Healing Saathi has become a haven for countless dogs and cats, rescuing and sheltering them from distress. Their mission is clear – to heal every single animal in need. Mugdha sacrificed her career as an air hostess to dedicate herself to this cause, and she hasn’t looked back since.

“I have always been an animal lover, and would feed the strays in my neighbourhood, but it was when the pandemic swept the nation that I realised that this was my purpose. Thousands of animals were struggling even to find water during that time. I started by feeding a few animals every day, and with the support of my family, I was able to start a shelter for them.”

Mugdha works tirelessly, providing round-the-clock care for animals with special needs, and standing against any form of cruelty towards these innocent creatures. Furthermore, she is passionate about raising awareness regarding animal laws and the importance of treating animals with kindness. It's heart-warming to see how her NGO also goes above and beyond by creating Reflective Collars, organizing adoption and awareness camps, and participating in vaccination and sterilization drives. Her empathy and love for animals is truly inspiring.

“We currently look after 130+ dogs and cats, and although we’ve received a fair bit of support for our initiative, it’s not enough. We get rescue calls almost every day and with the increasing number of animals in our shelter, we’re struggling to get larger quantities of food and medicines for them. We also face a lot of challenges with infrastructure, especially when it rains.”

Mugdha’s mother has been her biggest support system and has even pawned her jewellery to help her rent a small place to start the shelter. However, Mughda now needs your help to get food, medicines, and hygiene products to ensure that these animals are healthy and live in a safe and clean environment.

“I also need help getting construction material so that I can build a boundary wall for our shelter, a kitchen, and kennels for the new animals that we rescue. Many of the animals that we get are ill and have injuries, and we want to ensure they have a safe place to recover, away from infections. I want to keep all the animals here protected, and I can only do that if we have proper infrastructure for them.”
