Celebrate Kanya Pujan This Navratri, Help Anuj Serve Warm Meals to 500+ Underprivileged Girls
Project
When Navratri arrives, the air is filled with the sweet sound of little girls’ laughter, camera clicks of their new clothes, heartfelt praises, and happy family chatter over festive meals. It’s a time when young girls across the country are celebrated, worshipped and showered with blessings.
But for the girls living on the street, it’s just another nine days of hunger, isolation and hardship. With no new clothes, no warm meals, no family to celebrate with, their Navratri passes unnoticed, leaving them feeling lonely and unhappy.
Beti Foundation is working towards making their lives better
“Currently, we have 200 underprivileged girls under our care, and our goal is simple - we want them to go from Katora (bowl) to Kitab (book). The idea is to break the generational chain of begging, empower young girls and make them independent. We work towards sending them to school, teaching them their rights and carving a place for them in this society. They are alone in this world, and we want to be there for them.” - Anuj Bhati, Founder, Beti Foundation
Beti Foundation was founded in the year 2017 to empower girls in India’s villages by focusing on their education and rights. The foundation believes that educating a girl child is sure to give them a better and brighter future. Among its many initiatives is Kanya Pujan, where these underprivileged girls are celebrated and cherished, and given an opportunity to change their lives during Navratri.
What is Kanya Pujan, and how can it change the lives of these underprivileged girls?
Kanya Pujan is a sacred ritual performed during Navratri, where young girls between 2-10 years are worshipped as incarnations of Goddess Durga. They are offered food, clothes, and gifts. The ceremony is a way to express gratitude for the blessings that these little girls bring to the world.
“But there’s no one to perform Kanya Pujan for these little girls who live on the street. When other girls their age are showered with gifts and love, these girls go begging for food. It’s heartbreaking. That’s why, every Navratri, we perform Kanya Pujan for hundreds of underprivileged kids. They are given food, gifts, new clothes, a chance at education, and thus, a new life.”
Help Beti Foundation make this Navratri special for these little girls
On 5th April, 2025, Beti Foundation is all set to perform Kanya Pujan for 501 little girls at IIT Gate, Delhi. The girls will be worshipped, and provided a meal of Aloo, Puri and Halwa as is the norm. In addition to this, they will each be gifted a Kanyadaan Kit. The event is also an opportunity to sponsor a girl child’s education for a year. But, Beti Foundation needs your help to make this possible.
“With your help we can make this Navratri special for these girls who have seen nothing but hardships and make them feel seen. Your contribution can give a little girl a chance at a new life.”
