Babita Gupta And Her Son Are Spreading Happiness By Feeding 400+ People For Only 1 Rupee
Project
In 2020, during the devastating pandemic, Babita Gupta and her son Manish witnessed hunger and helplessness all around. People were struggling to find two square meals a day, and many were forced to starve. This heart-wrenching situation moved them deeply, and they knew they had to act. That's when they started the Nageshwar Bimla Foundation.
"It is unacceptable for anyone to go hungry in our country," says Babita Gupta. With this belief at their core, the mother-son duo launched the One Rupee Thali Project.
They serve nutritious meals cooked with love for just one rupee
Currently, they have two kitchens in Saharsa, Bihar – One at simribakhtiyarpur station and the other at City saharsa government hospital Every day, these kitchens feed between 350 and 400 people for just one rupee.
Babita ji explains that asking for just one rupee for a nutritious thali isn't about the money—it's about dignity. By contributing even a small amount, those in need feel a sense of pride and empowerment.
“This tiny payment helps them see themselves not as objects of pity, but as someone who can afford to buy their meals or even feed their families. After all, everyone deserves to eat with respect and self-worth.”
Babita ji, with her heart of gold, has worked as a teacher for many years now. She always aimed to uplift those on the lower rungs of society. Through her kitchen, she feeds hundreds of abandoned elderly, daily wagers, rickshaw-pullers, and little children.
"I find happiness and contentment in serving meals to those in need," she shares.
On most days, Babita personally visits the feeding areas and serves the meals herself. Over the years, she has built a personal connection with most of the people who come to the feeding drives. They’re no less than her family. She believes that serving people with love builds a life-long bond - one that she shall treasure forever.
