Save The Elderly Widows In Vrindavan From The Bitter Cold This Winter, Donate Blankets Today

Vrindavan is often spoken about as one of the holiest cities in India, with countless places of worship and lakhs of pilgrims. However, a walk down any lane will tell you why it’s also known as ‘the city of widows’ - elderly women dressed in white and often begging make up a large part of this holy land.  

India is home to nearly 55 million widows, most of whom live in terrible conditions. Many of these widows are often abandoned in Vrindavan by their families and left to fend for themselves. Their lives are filled with pain and suffering as they not only lack the support of their families but also access to even the most basic necessities. Hunger is rampant and their struggle for survival only increases every day. Now with the winter approaching, these widows will be left with nothing in the bitter cold.

Pure Devotion Foundation Is Determined To Change Their Plight

Pure Devotion Foundation, an NGO based out of Rajasthan, has been instrumental in providing food for sadhus and widows in Vrindavan ever since the beginning of the pandemic. They’ve also set up medical facilities for these widows and are looking to start an ashram as well.  Along with their work in Vrindavan, Pure Devotion Foundation has been working to set up a school for the villagers in the outskirts of Jaipur. The school will have all the facilities of a good CBSE school and teachers from Jaipur will be teaching the children. For years now, they've been striving to help vulnerable communities. 

This winter, they want to help the widows in Vrindavan stay warm and protected.

“These matajis have suffered so much already. They have no one to support them and no one to rely on. The pandemic only added to their struggles. They could barely get even one meal a day. We’ve tried our best to support them ever since the beginning of the pandemic by helping them have fresh meals, and now we want to continue giving them a better life. They deserve all the love, respect, and care that they can get.” - Sundar Prabhuji

Most of the widows in Vrindavan live in ashrams across the city and beg outside temples to earn a living. Some of them don’t even have a roof over their head. In these living conditions, they have no means to brave the cold winter.
