This Punjab-Based NGO Needs Your Support To Feed 140+ Abandoned Girls In Need

    Project

Way back in 1998, Dr Harminder Singh in Kharar, Punjab, was perturbed by the fact that people were abandoning their baby girls. The worst part was that even orphanages were not ready to take in girls because of the added societal responsibilities of providing them security and getting them married.

Dr. Singh took it upon himself to take care of these abandoned girls and give them a home they could call their own. That was how Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra, an NGO based out of Kharar, was formed. They work wholeheartedly to uplift the girl child who has been deprived of family care and love.

What started with just 4 girls is now a safe haven for hundreds in need

“As of today, I have 143 girls living in this orphanage and they’re all my daughters. The youngest one among them is hardly a year old and we are doing our best to give her everything she needs. Jyoti Sarup is not just a home but also a place where we encourage these girls to be independent and fulfill their dreams. The joy I get on seeing them happy can’t be compared to anything,” - Dr. Harminder Singh, Founder, Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra.

The NGO works day and night to give these 143 girls a life of comfort and love. They take care of their educational and medical needs and feed them nutritious meals. Not only that, they also encourage them to take part in extracurricular activities.

“For the last two decades I have been working for these girls. They call me ‘Papa’ and I can’t fail them. They are abandoned at birth but that doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve love.”

This father needs your help to look after his daughters

The pandemic has been really tough for the orphanage and Dr. Singh has been using his own savings as the expenses run in lakhs. Even getting the basic necessities has become difficult during a time when the donations have become dwindling. But Dr. Singh is not ready to give up.

“Sending them back to their relatives is not an option for me. I am their only ray of hope. I am requesting all of you to please come forward and help us by donating construction materials and groceries so that I can help many more girls in need.”
