Sick dogs, old and visually challenged horses, an abandoned donkey, sick cows, a monkey recovering from a terrible road accident, and many more injured cats have found a safe home in Jeev Welfare Trust. Harpreet Bali and her husband work day and night to give these animals a second chance at life. For the last 8 years, this animal-loving couple has rescued countless animals on the verge of death. Their organization works for the welfare of the animals in Jalandhar City and also in the villages of the Hoshiarpur district.
“8 years ago, my husband and I saved a severely injured stray dog with the help of some kind-hearted animal lovers. When we saw that the dog was fully recovered and was able to live a comfortable life, we found a purpose. We decided to help many more animals in need and to this day we have been true to our mission. You will be surprised to know how many animals in and around Jalandhar need help every day…we want to give all of them the life they deserve,” - Harpreet Bali, Co-Founder, Jeev Welfare Trust.
The puppy we saved is now living a healthy life at our shelter
Talking about old and sick animals, Harpreet recalls an incident when her husband had taken an injured kitten to the vet and saw a puppy lying down on the next table, his mouth tied up. Next to him, a couple was crying profusely. On asking the vet, he got to know that the little one was hurt in his hind legs and was about to be put to sleep.
“My husband couldn’t bear that and asked the couple if they would want to keep the puppy at our shelter. The couple readily agreed and after 15 days of proper care, the puppy was all better. In a few days, he started running again and we were so thankful that my husband was there at the clinic that day. We were able to save an innocent life and that is all we want to continue doing.”
In her 8 years of involvement in animal welfare, Harpreet has seen several gruesome cases. Cats falling from the second floor of a building and suffering from almost fatal head injuries and fractured paws - she has witnessed it all. But she has also seen how timely medical treatment and a lot of love and care can bring them back even from a coma.
“Animal rescue is not for the faint-hearted. Even when the vets lose hope, we, rescuers, give it our all to save these voiceless beings. They can’t fight for themselves, we have to do that for them.”
It is difficult saying ‘no’ to an animal in need but lack of funds is forcing Harpreet to do so
Harpreet and her husband wish to give a life of happiness and health to as many animals as they can but currently, they have a limited capacity. As a result, there have been times when they were unable to take in more rescues.
“It breaks my heart to say no to them but what choice do I have? We want to build a bigger shelter for these animals and we need your help with that. Please help us save these animals in need.”
Donate food, medicines, and construction materials to Jeev Welfare Trust and make a difference in the lives of hundreds of strays.
About the NGO: 8 years ago, Harpreet Bali and her husband started Jeev Welfare Trust in Jalandhar to serve the old, sick and severely injured animals in Jhalandar and other areas of Punjab. Currently, they’re home to over 100 sick dogs and cats, old, visually challenged, and abandoned horses, donkeys, and cows. They work day and night to give them a second chance at life. With proper care and medications, Harpreet has been able to save several lives but she wants to do so much more. She wants to be the voice for these voiceless animals who suffer in silence.
