Project
Maharashtra is the second largest sugar-producing state in India. In the sugarcane harvesting and transport operations every year women are also involved with equal numbers to men .large a number of workers are coming from the Marathwada region as cane cutters and transporting labours. women and girls suffer the most due to a lack of water and toilets.
They have to fetch water from a public water supply for the entire family and bath out in the open. For women workers situation gets more difficult during menstruation cycles. Due to the inability to maintain menstrual hygiene and use sanitary pads due to lack of toilet and water. Women often use dirty and damp cloths which increases the infection. In adolescent girls, poor menstruation hygiene and care cause fungal and bacterial infections pelvic and vaginal infections in several forms. After all, women are facing lots of problems in the field. Therefore Jidnyasa is trying to do intervention in this area.
Introduction:-
Menstruation is still taboo in India and it is common for people across society to feel uncomfortable about the subject coupled with it, is the fact that there is a lack of information on the process of menstruation, menstruation cycle, and proper hygiene during periods. Lack of safe sanitary facilities in rural areas, and urban communities, and Poor menstrual hygiene management has been largely ignored or misunderstood. Coupled with these issues Jidnyasa is trying to work on these issues in the Kolhapur District.
Objectives:-
? To increase awareness among adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene, build self-esteem, and empower girls for greater socialisation
? To ensure safe disposal of sanitary napkins in an environment-friendly manner.
? To give the proper information about the menstruation process.
? Orientation about How to use sanitary pads, and sanitary napkins.
? Healthy Diet during the period, Importance of iron intake and benefits.
? Safe disposal method of sanitary pads.
? Distribution of Sanitary Pads.
Experience and output of the session:-
When I started to conduct the session with migrant adolescent girls, first upon they looked towards me like I have been done some crime or misdeed as I talk about Menstruation.They were not comfortable talking about menstruation.. Step by step girls open up and the session was joyful. Girls open up about myths that they have in their community as they told me that the first time somebody has talked with them about menstruations. At end of the session, we have been distributed sanitary pads to adolescent girls
Period poverty is one of the many challenges women face on an everyday basis. Several of them are deprived of even the most basic resources, and due to their lack of access and awareness, they’re left with nothing.
Every woman deserves equal opportunities and equal access to essentials. Now is the time for us to come together to ensure that every abandoned, destitute and helpless woman gets the help she needs.
