HELP KAWF FEED STRAYS IN KASHMIR
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Project
KAWF
is the brainchild of three Kashmiri girls who have been in the animal rescue
domain for the last 10 years respectively.Sanna Bandey and
Asma Noor Sheikh have been actively involved with animal rescue and welfare for
the past decade. While Sanna has worked in different geographies and handled
rescue, rehabilitation and adoption and is also a part of Lucknow animal
welfare groups, Asma works with animal rescue groups within Delhi-NCR.
Nighat Lone has been instrumental in shaping up the preliminary animal welfare system in the valley by her individual efforts since a young age.
Together, the three went on to register
Kashmir Animal Welfare Foundation (KAWF), a platform that gave way to many
others to join and help animals in need.
From a handful of animal lovers to a volunteer base of 35 people, KAWF has come a long way in the last one year. KAWF is providing a one-stop platform for animal lovers across the valley to join hands and do their bit towards the welfare of animals. Our volunteers and those who seek to work with us are in the age group of 20-40 who have realized the importance of having a consolidated welfare system within the valley for animals.
KAWF registers 3-4 cases on a daily basis with
ailments ranging from skin issues to accidental injuries to severe medical
problems like meningitis.
Some of the cases are treated on spot by the volunteers who are equipped with the requirement medical supplies and training to handle simpler issues while others which need immediate and long term medical attention are transported to the kennels where caretakers handle the cases on a 24*7 basis.
KAWF understands the animal welfare scenario in the valley and is working towards bringing a change in the behaviour and attitude towards animals. The main problems that KAWF aims to work upon are:
- Lack of consolidated animal welfare and
support system in the valley.
- Missing or inadequate medical infrastructure
and post-operative care
- Lack of a consistent ABC program to keep a
check on stray population
- An abhorrent attitude towards stray animals
especially dogs who are tagged as dirty and impure.
- No awareness programs at educational and
social levels.
- Massive abandonment of animals of use and pets.
It’s difficult for a team of three girls to manage on their own an entire valley burdened with turmoil over the last 5 decades and an attitude of complete carelessness towards strays animals from authorities and a part of the local population as well. But we are fighting and we will fight till death.
Stray dogs and cats in Kashmir are the most neglected of any region in India. Although many people feed them and take care of them in their own capacity, the percentage is low and with Animal Birth Control measures not streamlined, the population is huge and it becomes difficult for local feeders to take care of such a huge number.
Our volunteers feed as many dogs as possible, sometimes running into hundreds as they gather in groups for food. How can you differentiate between who to feed and who not? As animal lovers and as humans, it’s like differentiating between two of your babies.
With snowfall at its maximum and more of it predicted for the month of January, we need as much food as possible to donate. Feeding stray dogs good food means they do not suffer from skin diseases which usually result from eating rotten food and more immunity to fight off diseases, which again means less burden for us.
Please open your hearts and donate to us.
