Project
Parvati, like millions of informal workers in India, lost her job due to the Coronavirus lockdown. However, she decided to contribute to the society with the time on her hands. She makes masks to help MaskforIndia – an initiative to distribute free, reusable cloth masks across the underserved population in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
But, Parvati needs help to feed her family. MaskforIndia is an initiative to assist such vulnerable people of India in these distress times. Your donation will be of immense value and support to the people who are feeling the direct brunt of the lockdown 3.0 in India. Your one step will translate directly into protecting them from the spread of Covid-19 with masks and feeding someone's hunger.
A lending hand from you could fill two needs with one deed. It aids the makers as well as the recipients.
- Recipients: Vulnerable population who belong to disadvantaged communities, who often work in areas with little or no compliance of health and safety regulations
- Makers: Unorganized sector workers and small businesses who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and the lockdown
Here’s where you come in. You can contribute financially, the funds of which will go towards supporting the mask makers.
How will your donations be used?
After 40 days of lockdown, many NGOs are struggling to keep up with the demand. Their funds are drying up, and donations are becoming more and more scarce. In such difficult times, where NGOs are struggling to provide food, the proactive distribution of masks has been stopped. There are still thousands of people who do not have access to masks. With your donations, these NGOs will be supported such that they are able to safeguard poor-families.
As per the government guidelines, cotton masks are easy to make, affordable and nearly 70% as effective as surgical masks if made and used with proper precautions. Considering the acute shortage of PPE for the health workers, it is important that the general public wears cotton, reusable masks for non-medical use. Pack of 10 cotton, reusable masks can safeguard a family of 5 for 3 months during the next phase of the lockdown and even the time ahead.
Many NGO's that MaskforIndia is collaborating with are struggling to provide food due to the extended lockdown. Considering the need of the hour, MaskforIndia will also provide some percentage of the donation to provide meals. It will relieve them of the financial and mental stress, which is always invaluable.
This is a 100% non-profit initiative. All financiers will get a report on the use of the proceedings with videos and photographs attached.
