These Women Walk Miles To Fetch A Bucket Of Water, Donate Now To Help Them

    Project

Imagine waking up on a normal day only to find that there is no drinking water left at home. To make things worse, you’re told that the only source of drinking water is 15 kms away from your house. Sounds like a nightmare, right? But this is the harsh reality for thousands living in the villages of Ajmer and Nagaur in Rajasthan.

While the male members of the family go out to work early in the morning, the women and the young girls have to walk miles to fetch water. Every drop of water is precious for them. Little girls walk with heavy pails of water in the scorching heat of the sun - girls who should be busy in their school struggle to get water to their family members.  Their entire day revolves around this humongous task and in the process, their physical health gets adversely affected.

How is Manthan Sansthan changing things for the better?

Manthan is a non–profit organization based in the rural areas of Ajmer district, Rajasthan. It was started in 1998. Manthan works on diverse local issues related to sustainable development along with empowering marginalized and excluded communities in 120 villages of Ajmer and Nagaur districts, Rajasthan, India.

“While working in the community for education, we understood that water was the main basic need of the community as the areas are surrounded by Sambhar Salt Lake due to which ground water is salty. This has resulted in excessive pressure on the existing ground water resources. Besides this major issue, communities also face severe social, economic, political and other environmental challenges,” - Teja Ram Mali, Coordinator, Manthan Sansthan.

Manthan has been using traditional knowledge to harvest the rainwater in these parched areas of Rajasthan and with this, they have helped thousands of people who couldn’t think of depending on agriculture before.

“The young girls and women too have benefitted from this. Making a toilet doesn’t solve the problem of hygiene and sanitation - they don’t even have water. We are trying our best to bring water to them. The people who suffer do not need awareness, they are the most aware ones because they are the ones going through it. What they need is support”.

Join hands with Manthan to provide water to thousands in Rajasthan

Something as basic as water shouldn’t be a cause of worry for countless people but unfortunately, it is. It is especially plaguing the women and the young girls for whom open defecation has become the norm.

“Widows, physically challenged people too face a lot of challenges due to this water crisis. We wish to change that by building a storage facility for these houses who can’t afford even a single bucket of water. With your support, we can reach out to many in need. We would link these storage facilities for houses which have an existing water tank and build a new one for those who can’t afford to build one.”

Manthan Sansthan needs construction materials so that they can provide thousands of families in Ajmer and Nagaur with a regular source of water. You can make this happen with a small donation.
