This 84 YO sadhu in Rae Bareilly is famous across the district. He is an environmentalist and an animal lover and is better known as the Monkey Man. He feeds over 400 monkeys on a daily basis and looks after the injured and sick ones as well.

“The last four decades, this is what I have been doing and now even though I am old I don’t want to stop. These animals are helpless and often starve to death. I try my best to give them the least I can,” - Shyam Sadhuji.

Despite his own struggles, Sadhuji doesn’t miss a single day of feeding the monkeys

Old age has ravaged this man but there is no stopping him from feeding these innocent animals. If you ask him how he is doing, he just smiles and says, “As good as a man my age should. I have back pain, pain in my knees but I am determined to feed the monkeys. My daughters do their own part in looking after animals as well. I am proud to be their father.”

Not a single day goes by without Sadhuji going out with quintals of wheat, chana etc to feed the monkeys. He sits near the trees and just lets the monkeys come to him. They shower him with love and show their gratitude - it is indeed a sight to behold!

Even while he was a child, Sadhuji used to feed his tiffin to hungry strays near his school and would go hungry. From his childhood to now, Shyam Sadhuji has only been living to care for these voiceless souls. All these years, he has been doing everything on his own with little help from kind strangers.
