Project
Navkshitij was established on November 27, 2003, to improve the well-being of mentally challenged adults. We take them under our wing, organize activities, teach them life skills and vocational skills, encourage them to become as independent as possible, and nurture them in a compassionate environment. We understand that it becomes increasingly difficult for parents to nurture mentally challenged children as they grow up. We are committed to the well-being of mentally challenged adults during their lifetime.
Initially, we set up a day-care centre. In June 2007, Navkshitij became a residential facility. It is now home to 64 mentally challenged adults. We acquired a dilapidated dwelling from the Irrigation department on lease and made it habitable within ten weeks. With this, we established our first permanent residential facility where special friends can live with their peers.
Residential Workshop: This facility is for the Resident MCF living at the campus. It is a form of education and therapy for the MCF. It offers them a good daily routine and opportunities to interact with mainstream society, which are very critical for their rehabilitation. The activities at the workshop help the MCF learn new skills and stay productive. Participation in the activities boosts their self-confidence and gives them an increased sense of self-worth and dignity. These, in turn, help to significantly bring down their behavioral and psychological issues. Effectively, the MCF feels good, happy, and productive.
Being a Resident MCF offers them the opportunity to experience community living, which is another critical aspect of the rehabilitation of MCF. Living with their peers the MCF does not feel different or challenged. In such an atmosphere, they allow themselves to grow and blossom. Besides, like many of us, they too need and want the company of peers.
Currently, there are 64 Resident MCF at our two units at Marunji and Asawali. All Resident MCF stay at Navkshitij throughout their lifetime.
