This Gaushala In Uttarakhand Is The Reason 2000+ Cows Have Healed From Their Injuries & Trauma

Whether it’s the bustling streets or remote regions of India, countless cows are in search of food and shelter, as they roam around looking for even a morsel to fill their empty stomach. These animals, considered holy and sacred by many, are often found frail, injured, sick and neglected.

For hundreds of cows in Nainital, Uttarakhand, Srila Nityanand Pad Ashram GauVansh Raksha is one such place where they’re given unconditional love and care. Over 2000 cows and bulls have found a home here and the dedicated teams work hard every day to rescue more cows who’re suffering. However, they continue to battle with a sea of challenges. 

They’ve Braved The Pandemic, Floods & Other Crises To Rescue Helpless Cows 

This gaushala lies amidst lush green landscapes and is a sanctuary for cows and bulls in the true sense. Their mission is to rescue injured, sick, challenged and even cows suffering from rare condition. They not only have a shelter for cows but also a hospital where they receive the timely medical care and treatment they need. 

“We started the gaushala in 2006 after four cows were rescued from slaughterhouses. These innocent animals have not one, but countless things that threaten their lives. And our aim is to protect them from it all. Out of the 2000 cows and bulls we have, around 1200 of them are injured or challenged. They need constant care and attention, and our team leaves no stone unturned. Even today we rescue over 4-5 cows from accidents every day.” 

However, looking after 2000 cows is no small task. Especially amidst crises and disasters. While they’ve braved the pandemic and continue to rescue cows from the floods, they’re struggling. 

“The pandemic was the most difficult time for us. Donations reduced drastically and we didn’t know how we would look after all of them. We’ve rescued many of them from the floods as well. But now we have no means to take in more cows. We have limited space and have no means to keep them sheltered from the rains. Just yesterday we were asked to keep some sick cows, but with a heavy heart, we had to decline. We want to be in a position to help each and every cow that comes our way.”

Their Dedication Is Unmatched, But They Can’t Go On Without Help 

To ensure the cattle in their care receive proper nourishment, team members travel over 70 km every day to get fodder. They have no option but to spend lakhs of rupees to acquire large quantities of food, without which, the cows will only get weaker. The gaushala can get fodder and medicines for all their cows with your support and save them from hunger and illnesses. They also want to expand the shelter so that they can take in many more cows. This dream can only become a reality if they receive construction materials.
