Help Padma Shree Awardee Muktaben Dagli Give 200+ Girls With Visual Impairment A Life Of Dignity
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Project
Padma Shri Awardee, Muktaben Dagli is like no other. She wakes up every morning at 4.45 am and sleeps every day past midnight on a compound with no bed or pillow. She lives a simple, selfless life, and spends her entire day dedicatedly helping the visually impaired girls at Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj - the organization she started with her husband Pankaj Dagli in 1995.
“When I was 14, my best friend was killed by her parents. All because she was visually impaired. She had often told me about the cruelty she faced at home, but I never imagined they would do this to her. I then decided I would do everything to help girls like us.” - Muktaben Dagli, Co-founder, Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj
Despite being visually impaired themselves, Muktaben and Pankaj Dagli have gone above and beyond to help those in need. Today, they need your support to get grocery kits and walking sticks for the students.
Together, This Couple Has Changed Thousands Of Lives
Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj was started in Surendranagar, Gujarat with the aim to uplift girls with visual impairments. Here they’re given the love, warmth and affection of a family. All their needs are taken care of - food, education, shelter, clothes and more.
“We currently have 200 girls, and all of them have faced some kind of discrimination and struggle growing up. All of them come from small villages around India, and some of them have been thrown out of their house because of their disability. Our aim here is to make sure they are independent, confident and happy. They need to feel like they’ve truly found a home at last.” - Muktaben Dagli, Co-founder, Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj
Each girl here has a heartbreaking story, and spending a few hours with them will show you how resilient they all are. At Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj they’re not just given the amenities they need, but also parental love. Muktaben and Pankaj look after them as their own children, and whether it’s vocational and rehabilitation support or their wedding, they do everything possible to give them the best life.
“Whether it’s debates, sports, dance, or drama, these girls are enthusiastic about learning and participating in activities. Some of them also go to college for which we give them all the necessary items they need. To see them learn, grow and reach their full potential is all we want as parents.” - Pankaj Dagli, Co-founder, Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj
They Now Need Your Support
Needless to say, the pandemic has made it extremely difficult for Muktaben and Pankaj to continue looking after 200+ girls to the best of their abilities. With the lack of support and donors, they’re struggling to make it by.
They now need your help to get grocery kits so that they can give warm and healthy meals to the 200 girls at Pragna Chakshu Mahila Seva Kunj. They also need help to get walking sticks which will support the girls in their everyday life. Your contribution will give 200 visually impaired girls a better life.
