Project
Pitru Paksha, also known as Mahalaya Paksha, is a sacred period in the Hindu lunar calendar dedicated to paying homage to one's ancestors. It typically falls in the month of Ashwin and is observed with great reverence and devotion. One of the most meaningful ways to seek blessings during this time is through the practice of Annadanam Seva. Our campaigns aim to showcase the significance of Annadanam Seva during Pitru Paksha, emphasizing its role in nurturing our culture and invoking blessings from our forefathers.
Annadanam Seva: A Time-Honored Tradition
Annadanam, the act of offering food, has been a cherished tradition in Hindu culture for centuries. It reflects the core values of compassion, selflessness, and service to humanity. During Pitru Paksha, this practice takes on special significance as it involves offering food to those in need as a way of honoring our ancestors. It symbolizes the belief that feeding the hungry is akin to nourishing the souls of our departed loved ones.
Nurturing Cultural Bonds: Annadanam Seva during Pitru Paksha plays a vital role in nurturing the cultural bonds that connect generations. By participating in this practice, we reinforce the importance of preserving our traditions and passing them down to future generations. It serves as a reminder of our duty to uphold the values and customs that have been handed down to us by our forefathers.
Fostering Unity and Compassion: The act of offering food to the less fortunate not only strengthens cultural ties but also fosters unity and compassion within society. It transcends boundaries of caste, creed, and social status, emphasizing the fundamental principle of equality. During Pitru Paksha, people from all walks of life come together to engage in Annadanam Seva, creating a sense of community and shared purpose.
Seeking Blessings from Ancestors: Pitru Paksha is a time when Hindus believe that the souls of their ancestors revisit the earthly realm. By performing Annadanam Seva, we seek the blessings and goodwill of our forefathers. It is believed that by satisfying the hunger of those in need, we also appease the souls of our ancestors, ensuring their peace and blessings for the family. This spiritual connection between the living and the departed is a profound aspect of Pitru Paksha observance.
You can contribute to this Annadaan Seva on any of the days during the Mahalaya Paksha and draw in the blessings of your ancestors for you and your family. During the Mahalaya Paksha this year, which will be observed from September 29th to October 14th, 2023, Each day they will be feeding at least 100–200 people. We currently have centers in Maharashtra ( Beed, Latur), Bihar (Jamui), Jharkhand (Biru), and Rajasthan (Kotri, Rajsamand) where we are working continuously to upgrade and uplift the student and youth communities.
In doing so, we ensure that the legacy of Pitru Paksha endures, carrying forward the blessings and wisdom of our ancestors for generations to come.
