Pooja Rani Needs Your Support To Build A Shelter And Feed 500+ Strays In Ludhiana

Ten years back, when Pooja Rani had started working with the strays, she had no idea that one day she would be looking after over 500 animals. But she is nothing but grateful for what she has been able to do for these innocent animals. 

“These animals come to me in horrible states. Some have been victims of animal cruelty while the others have been abandoned by their owners because they had some problems. I am their last hope and I want to do everything for them,” - Pooja Rani, founder of the dog shelter. 

The shelter is in shambles 

An animal-lover from her childhood, Pooja always wanted to do something for the animals in need. But financial constraints came in the way. She used to keep 30-35 dogs at her own home but neighbours started complaining about the sound. It was then that she finally decided to open a shelter of her own with help from many other animal-lovers. 

“Slowly the number of the strays increased and since then I have dedicated my life to their care. Each animal here has a story of their own but to me, all of them are my children. Till now, the expenses have been met with the help of kind souls but right now my entire shelter is in shambles. During harsh weather, it becomes very difficult for me to keep them dry and warm.”

We are all aware of how the pandemic has affected the strays. They have been deprived of their food and fresh water. Pooja agrees with this and she adds that during the pandemic she has also seen this trend of owners giving up on their pets. 

“Some call me and request me to take them, citing financial problems but there are those who leave these animals outside my shelter in bags! Mostly they have terminal illnesses or are too old. I welcome all of them with open arms. I try my best to give them a better life. With your help, I will only be able to help many more.”

About Pooja Rani Dog Shelter: Situated in Ludhiana, this shelter is named after a woman in her late 40s who has dedicated her life to the welfare of the strays. The shelter is now home to over 500 strays.
