Help Republica Sridhar Bring Smiles And Comfort In The Lives Of Terminally Ill Patients

When Neela lost the ability to walk, she didn’t think she would be able to stand on her own legs again. She was in her early 80s and without any financial backing of her own, the poor woman had no hope of leading a life of comfort again. 

But RMD Pain And Palliative Care Trust, Chennai, came to her rescue. The skilled doctors and the nurses helped her stand on her own feet again. This is not just Neela’s story but this organisation has been the turning point in many lives for the last 15 years. They have been providing care for people with terminal illness by offering holistic services including healthcare delivery, awareness creation as well as training and education. They also offer hospice-care to home-care for all the patients. 

Let’s meet the mind behind this novel initiative 

Republica Sridhar has over 25 years of experience in providing palliative healthcare services. She founded RMD Trust to provide quality healthcare and support to those from impoverished and destitute backgrounds suffering from terminal or chronic illnesses. This vision of accessible healthcare for those most in need has been the driving force behind the growth and scale of RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust. 

“In India, the rising cost of healthcare is a cause for concern and in my field of work, I come across so many people who can’t afford their or their family members’ treatment due to lack of funds. It is heartbreaking to see these people die a painful death without any care just because they don’t have the money. At RMD Trust, we try to give these terminally ill patients the kind of care they need along with nutritious food and medicines,” - Republica Sridhar, Founder, RMD Pain And Palliative Care Trust.  

In the last 15 years, RMD Trust has been able to help over 85,000 people in need. They have also given training to women from underprivileged backgrounds and helped them become nurses. 

“Most of the patients that we get are end-stage rare condition patients. Their families have been struggling to treat them and now have been forced to give up. We take them in and give them the best care. True to our motto of adding life to one’s days, we try to make their final days a peaceful and painless experience,” - Vignesh, social worker, RMD Trust. 

While their families are forced to give up on these terminally ill patients, Republica Sridhar and her dedicated team have taken upon themselves to serve these people in need. They are doing the best they can but with your support, they can reach out to many more.

About the NGO: RMD Pain And Palliative Care Trust was founded around 15 years ago by Republica Sridhar. The main objective of this organization was to make quality healthcare accessible for those most in need.
