“When people visit our gaushala, they leave with mixed emotions. While they’re happy to see so many cows being looked after so well, they’re also heartbroken to hear all their stories. They can’t believe what humans have done to these animals. Even spending two minutes in our hospital brings tears to their eyes. We have cows who’ve been beaten, those who’ve met with gruesome accidents, cows without limbs, broken hips…. The reality is that despite our best efforts, we can’t save them all because of how terrible their injuries are. These gaumatas have seen the worst side of humanity before coming here.” - Mukesh Bhai
Rajaram Gaushala in Tetoda, Gujarat, shows cows the kindness they’ve never experienced before. And while not every one of these cows makes it, most of them end up spending the rest of their lives in comfort here. Nurtured with love and care, Rajaram Gaushala fights for the rights of these helpless animals.
They Rescue Cows From Accidents, Injuries, Illnesses And More Every Single Day
Started in 1999, Rajaram Gaushala began with one single motto - to rescue gaumatas. Today they have over 6000+ cows, 1000 of whom are sick, injured or challenged and are looked after in their hospital. The Gaushala is not just a shelter, it’s a home where all their medical, nutritional and other essential needs are taken care of.
“We rescue 10-15 cows every day who are then brought here for treatment. Once we rescued a calf who had hot tar poured on him, and despite trying for 11 days, we couldn’t save him. These are the cases that we see day in and day out. And we don’t stop fighting for them. We have 250 cows who are completely immobile. Every day 4 people carry each cow, bathe them, feed them, give them medicines and truly look after them like family.”
Rajaram Gaushala has over 200 people working tirelessly to look after the cows and 5 veterinary doctors going above and beyond to save their lives. However, due to the increasing number of rescues they’re carrying out, they can’t cater to the needs of all the gaumatas without some help.
