Whenever a cow in Toda, Rajasthan has been in crisis, Naresh Kumar Saraswat and his team are the first to reach there.

Naresh recalls an incident where a cow had slipped down the hill during the rains. It was a dangerous situation and she looked severely injured.
“But there wasn’t enough space for a crane or large vehicle to go there, so we had to think quickly. We built a base with pipes and took 10 people with us to rescue the cow. Once we were able to place her on the base, we carried it on our shoulders all the way to our gaushala. Her two hind limbs were broken, and it took her two months to recover, but we didn’t give up on her.”

They Get Rescue Calls Every Day And Have Helped Hundreds Of Cows Until Now
The team at Shrimati Kailashi Devi Parmarth Seva Sansthan receives 3-4 rescue calls from people around the area every single day. They’ve made sure to inform neighbours and everyone around about their emergency number, and will leave no stone unturned to rescue a cow in need.
This all began years ago when Naresh and a group of friends decided to do something for helpless, abandoned and injured cows. While their NGO was established in 2017, their rescue work began much before that.
“I’ve seen my grandfather and father take care of cows as they would their own children. They had a great love for them, and if they heard about any cow being hurt, they would immediately bring them home and take care of them. My wife too has inspired me in this journey. She has always said that we need to help any animal or person in need. These are the values I carry with me.”
The gaushala currently looks after over 1200 cows and gives them food, shelter and any treatment or medicines they require. However, they constantly face challenges in ensuring that they’re well-fed.

“For 3-4 months in a year, there's grass all around for the cows to graze, however, the rest of the time there’s nothing. We have to buy food in large quantities which can be a challenge. One of the most difficult times we have been through is when cows fell ill with Lumpy Skin Disease. We had to rent a separate area and keep the affected cows in tents there while they were being treated. Our whole team had barely eaten for a week during that time.”

“People donate on special occasions like birthdays, weddings etc, but we don’t have regular donors. We get cows in such terrible conditions - severely malnourished, injured, sick…for them, we need fodder and medicines so that they can recover and live healthy lives. We can’t do this without your help.”
