“I was born with Polio. Both my legs got affected, and I was only 2 years old when I got treated in one leg. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t afford the whole treatment. At an age when I was supposed to be learning to walk, I was struggling. Everyone thought that Polio would define the rest of my life, but I didn’t let that happen.” - Veerababu Rayavarapu, Founder, Santhivardhana Ministries
Veerababu Rayavarapu’s grit and determination are unmatched. Although his childhood wasn’t easy and he struggled throughout school, he never gave up. He completed his education and became a successful tax consultant. Veerababu’s own story is heartwarming, but what he did with his success is even more touching.
He Used All His Savings To Start A School For Specially Abled Kids
Veerababu started Santhivardhana Ministries in Pulimeru Andhra Pradesh in 2005. He then started Santhivardhana School For Special Children for both physically and intellectually challenged children, and has received district-level and state-level awards for Best Non-Governmental Organisation over the years. They not only give them a good education but also physiotherapy, healthy meals and other essentials. They currently have over 110+ students with multiple disabilities.
“We’ve seen the impact we’ve had on so many lives, and that’s the best part of what we do. So many of these children are leading independent and fulfilling lives. Six of whom have even got Government jobs. I still remember Kamala, a visually impaired student who learnt Braille here and is now a teacher! There’s nothing better than watching them succeed and stand on their own feet.”
Veerababu used all his savings to start this school, and now his wife is the sole earning member of the family. A considerable portion of what she earns also goes towards giving these children a better life. However, none of this is enough. There are still days when they have to struggle to keep up with the needs and expenses of the school. Even basic essentials like groceries and hygiene products are hard to come by sometimes.
He Needs Your Support To Give These Kids The Best Life
Children with physical and mental disabilities don’t have it easy. Every day can be a struggle. However, Santhivardhana School For Special Children is a safe place for them where everyone around them is there to offer love, support and respect. Veerababu wants to give these children the best opportunities and for that, he needs to ensure they’re well taken care of.
“I can’t do this on my own. I need your help to get physiotherapy equipment, groceries and hygiene products for the children here. These products will truly elevate the work that we’re doing here and help us look after them better.”
