Their Lives Were Filled With Pain Till Alia Rescued Them, Now These Orphans Have Found Hope

“A few years ago, we had rescued a 6YO boy who had lost both his parents. He was living with his uncle and aunt who were not taking good care of him. We received a call from his neighbours - they were aware of instances of abuse. The boy’s uncle and aunt were not feeding him regularly and often shouted at him. When we went to rescue the child, they were more than happy to send him with us. The little boy, too, seemed relieved. Since that day, he has always called me ‘Mummy’. These children are my responsibility, my bond with them only grows stronger,” - Alia Kagzi, caretaker of Sadguru Foundation Orphanage.  

Founded in 2014 in Mumbai, Sadguru Foundation is an initiative by a group of thoughtful and committed individuals who want to make a difference and create a positive impact. With empathy and compassion, they have been uplifting and empowering the lives of those in the underprivileged and marginalized sections of the society. Alia has been involved with this organisation for the past 5 years and has been relentless in her efforts to give these children a second chance at life.  

Growing up without the love of the parents inspired her to work for many more like her

Alia grew up in an orphanage and thus she knows the struggles of these 40 children in her care now. Many of them have abusive families. The others are either abandoned or their single parents are in no condition to look after them. 

“They all have stories that will break your heart but with a little love and care, they have the potential to do so much! It gives me immense joy when I see them scoring good marks and winning medals. I get to be a part of their little joys and there is no greater happiness than this.” 

Alia and her husband stay at the shelter home and provide round the clock care for these kids. Be it helping them with their homework, feeding them or looking after them when they’re sick - Alia is always with them. Her day begins early in the morning and throughout the day she is busy making arrangements for the children. While it may seem tiring to us, Alia always has a smile on her lips as she wades through her day. 

“We often have visitors at our shelter home and they’re so happy to see these children making so much progress. They were left to survive on the streets or in families were no one cared for them. I am glad that they can now grow up to be better human beings and have a bright future.” 

Alia struggles to feed proper meals to these children - help her now 

Some days are full of happiness in the orphanage. It is usually someone’s birthday or anniversary, and they get donations to feed nutritious meals to the kids. On those days, Alia is relieved but donations like these are not regular and the orphanage is in need of consistent support. 

“Apart from groceries, we also need help with medicines and hygiene products for the children. It is difficult for us to meet all their needs and so we request you to please help us.”
