Help Sahasee Embers Rescue And Rehabilitate 130+ Children Of Sex Workers In Navi Mumbai

“My wife and I were working in a medical camp in a red-light area of Navi Mumbai when we came across a 4-year-old who seemed severely traumatised. I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to her. But the answer shocked me. This little girl was sexually assaulted by her mother’s customer and since then hasn’t been in the right frame of mind. In the next few days, I couldn’t think about anything else. That’s when my wife and I decided to do something about these kids,”  Guy Rodrigues, Co-Founder & Trustee of Sahasee Embers. 

Since 2009, Mr. Guy Rodrigues and his wife, Mrs. Vani Rodrigues, have been making a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities in Navi Mumbai. Inspired by the plight of trafficking survivors, this ordinary couple embarked on an extraordinary journey of humanitarian work and founded Sahasee Embers in 2017 to uplift countless kids in the slums of Navi Mumbai. 

Generations of children have been trapped in this cycle of exploitation - Sahasee Embers is fighting to change that  

Lured by false promises, Shama found herself trapped in a Mumbai brothel for a decade, enduring unimaginable abuse and exploitation. Exhausted and desperate, she entered another abusive relationship, drowning deeper in debt. But amidst the darkness, a beacon of hope emerged.

Pregnant with her third child, Shama met the director of Sahasee Embers. This became a turning point for her. They arranged her delivery, renovated her home, and offered a sanctuary - a place to heal and rebuild her life with dignity.

Overwhelmed by this unwavering support, Shama made the courageous decision to leave behind this world of darkness and abuse. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Sahasee Embers, she has found purpose and dignity.

We nourish them with not just knowledge, but with freshly-cooked meals tailored to their needs. Vani and I are dedicated to giving them the very best – because these children, they're our future, and they mean the world to us.”  

Sahasee Embers helped over 130 kids get enrolled into good schools and continues to support them with their remedial education and after-school classes. They also have facilities for early childhood development programs which create a big difference in the lives of these kids in the red-light area.
