Her Overflowing Love For The Voiceless Has Saved Hundreds Of Animals, This Is Neha’s Story

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

Neha Kukreja has always been an animal lover and it was her dream to give these abandoned and voiceless animals a safe home. Four years ago, her dream came true when she started Sharnagat in Dehradun. The NGO is on a mission to rescue and rehabilitate countless animals who have no one to take care of them

Animals have always held a special place in Neha’s heart. It was her dream to be of service to alleviate the suffering she saw in animals. She aspired to be a voice for the voiceless & a ray of light for those in darkness. Sharnagat was born out of Neha’s sheer dedication & commitment towards the welfare of animals.

“They come to us in such a bad shape - my heart breaks seeing them like that! We try our best to give them the love and affection they have never got. When they get better and dance with joy, it makes me so happy… this is what I live for,” - Neha Kukreja, Founder, Sharnagat.

Every day poses new challenges but Neha is determined to fight for these animals

Talking about Sharnagat, Neha explains how she never wanted this to be just a shelter but a home for all those animals who have faced only pain and suffering. The day starts early at Sharnagat when Neha and her staff clean the kennels and the beds and give fresh drinking water to the animals. Then they start feeding them nutritious food and finally give them the medicines they need. Some of them are also sent for a vet visit for their spay/neuter or for a follow-up check-up after procedure.

“When the animals come to us, we start by building trust and a personal bond with the animal. We give them a warm bath at first. Then we deworm them and look into their eyes with a conviction of oneness, bending down to offer nutritious food with respect and love, maintaining respectful boundaries, and showering them with love and comfort. We play with them and take them for daily walks. Once they start trusting us, they heal way faster. I have seen so many of them bounce back to good health. They’re my inspiration.”

Neha shares the story of Sahiba, a dog she had rescued from Pauri. She had a huge rare condition under her tail and needed immediate procedure. While it was very difficult, Neha did everything in her power to bring her to Sharnagat and give her the necessary treatment

“With multiple sessions of che mo, timely medicines, multivitamins, nutritious meals, and constant love and care, Sahiba recovered. Slowly but surely Sahiba gained her confidence and began to beam with joy. Sahiba is now all fine and is a permanent resident of Sharnagat.”

Neha wants to help many more like Sahiba. Sharnagat is now home to hundreds of dogs (special needs , abandoned or who came ill & never found a home), a bull, a donkey, and over 50 birds.

Together with her 11YO daughter, this woman is saving innocent animals. You can help her continue her mission

Neha’s daughter, Sairah, is the youngest member of Sharnagat and helps her mother look after these sick and injured animals. Together, the mother-daughter duo works hard to spread awareness in and around Dehradun about the need for sterilisation programs, adoption of indie breeds, and animal cruelty among other things. Neha says that she has a lot of hope for the younger generation, she wants to equip them with tools so that they can continue looking after abandoned animals.

“All these years, I have been working away from the public eye - my only aim was to give these animals a better life. But now it is becoming increasingly difficult. The bills are mounting, I need help with food, roti maker, hygiene products, and dog beds too. With your support, I am sure I will be able to reach out to many more in need. Please help us save these innocent animals.”
