This Auto Driver Is On A Mission To Help Abandoned Widows Live A Life Of Happiness & Respect

Helping people is something that comes naturally to Thiru. G. Mohan, an auto driver in Pondicherry. For the longest time, he has been working closely with the physically challenged, widows, abandoned children, and elderly. 

Mohan is the epitome of kindness and affection for all those who have been forced to live on the streets and have no one to care for them. He has dedicated his life for the welfare of these people and now wants to build a home for them.

A simple act of kindness started all of this 

“One day while riding an auto-rickshaw, I came across a lady lying on the streets in a miserable condition. She reminded me of my mother who had died due to lack of medical attention. I brought that old lady woman and she started to live her life with her family. It was then that I realized that there are so many elderlies who are in need of help, people who are homeless and abandoned by their own families. I decided to do something for them,” - Mohan.

In 2002, he registered his organization - Sharon Society of Pondicherry. The objective of the organization was to provide nutrition, medical care, and social and psychological support to the aged or abandoned challenged. In a few years, he started an old age home that is now the home for 83 abandoned elderly women.  

Mohan is also working on a number of other issues like rescuing aged people from the streets, income generation activities for women empowerment, free health check-up, and blood donation camps, etc.  

But right now, his priority is to build the first floor of his shelter home so that he would be able to help many more widows and abandoned women in need.

Mohan is dedicated to help all those women who have been abandoned by society. While social stigma surrounds the widows, Mohan treats them like his own mother. He wishes to give them a happy, comfortable and safe home where they will be treated with respect.
