Millions Of Kids In India Are Orphaned, Join T.G. Murthy's Fight To Give Them The Life They Deserve

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

It's heartwarming to see how pain and hardship can unite people, especially the children at Sneha Jyothi Charitable Trust's orphanages. Despite their difficult circumstances, these orphans and abandoned children have managed to form strong bonds and become each other's pillars of support. It's inspiring to see how they find hope, comfort, and friendship in one another - the most precious gift they could ask for.

“All the children that come here have a story. They’ve all been through the most difficult times at such a young age, and after feeling alone and helpless for so long, they find so much love here. While many of these children have lost both their parents, some have been sent here after their parent remarried and the child wasn’t accepted in the new home. When their own families abandon them, Sneha Jyothi’s orphanages not only give them a roof over their heads but a place where they finally belong.” - T.G. Murthy, Founder

The words of T.G. Murthy beautifully capture the resilience of the children at their orphanages. He has been giving countless children a better life since 2009 despite his own challenges, and he wants to continue doing so for the rest of his life.

Son Of Daily Wagers, Murthy’s Childhood Loss & Struggles Shaped His Mission To Save Orphaned Kids

T.G. Murthy was only a young boy when he lost his father. His mother, a daily wage earner, did not have the means to give Murthy the life and education he deserved. That’s when a kind farm owner, G. Anand,  took him in and brought him up as his own. Murthy was able to complete his education, and today looks after the same farm that he grew up on.

"Anand sir changed my life and is one of my biggest inspirations. He taught me the power of kindness, and that’s what I want to teach these children as well. It’s hard to see them sad and heartbroken. The single parents who get remarried and leave their child here, often never come to visit. There are instances when a child is really sick and is crying for their parents, but despite calling them to inform them, they don’t show up. Can you imagine what it must feel like for the child…not knowing why you’ve been left here or in many cases wondering why you don’t have parents at all.”

However, T.G. Murthy and the staff at the orphanages more than makeup for this. The children are looked after with utmost care and are given food, shelter and everything they could possibly need. Across their three orphanages - Bangalore, Mysore and Ramanagara- they have a total of 60 children looked after by five dedicated staff members in each branch. T.G. Murthy considers all these children as his own and will do anything to give them the life they deserve. All these children have received a new lease of life after coming here. Especially children like Manju*, whose whole life came crashing before his eyes.

“His parents had a love marriage and had to run away. However, his mom’s side of the family kept looking for them. One day, they managed to find the father. And that was the last Manju saw of him. His mother, devastated and afraid, took her own life, leaving Manju all alone. He was then brought here by a kind neighbour and has since found a new family. Today he’s a teenager, getting the education he needs and the life he deserves.”

T.G. Murthy Wants To Change Many More Lives With Your Support

Since the Trust doesn’t have any regular donors, Murthy currently uses his own money to run the orphanages and provide for the children, selling tender coconut, milk, and other farm-grown products to ensure they have nutritious meals. However, he is struggling to keep going.

“There’s only so much I can do alone. I have to feed 60 children, it’s not easy. If I receive your support in getting groceries, hygiene products and stationery items for these kids, it will make a huge difference to them.”

According to reports, there are more than 30 million orphaned and abandoned children in India. Shockingly, less than 500,000 of them receive institutional care, leaving the vast majority to endure unimaginable pain and trauma as they struggle to survive each day. T.G. Murthy is working tirelessly to provide these children with a brighter future where they can become self-sufficient and independent.

About the NGO: Started in 2009 by T.G. Murthy, Sneha Jyothi Charitable Trust has three orphanages in Karnataka with a total of 60 children. Here they’re given food, shelter, medical care and a life of dignity. T.G. Murthy has dedicated his life to looking after these children, many of whom have been abandoned by their families. T.G. Murthy considers all these children as his own and will do anything to give them the life they deserve. All these children have received a new lease of life after coming here.
