    Project

“My daughter, Nilu, was a fighter. For years, she fought against rare condition but even after a bone marrow transplant, she succumbed to this dangerous disease. She was only a teenager when she left us and the pain is fresh in my mind and heart. But Nilu always wanted me to help those in need - even when she was suffering. While in Tata Memorial, Mumbai, I saw so many families trying their best to make ends meet and get their children treated. I could feel their pain and wanted to support them. That was how Solace was born,” - Sheeba Ameer, Founder, Solace.

Based out of Kerala, Solace is a grieving mother’s heartfelt attempt at helping all those families who are struggling to provide treatment to their children suffering from terminal diseases.

These children go through unimaginable pain because of rigorous chemotherapy. They're left crying and in pain for countless days, and their little bodies have to endure medicines, injections, and blood tests almost every single day. They throw up, become weak, and can hardly move. Confined by the four walls of the hospital, they wait to get better as their childhood slips by. The parents of these children are left heartbroken. Not only are they on the verge of losing their child, but they've also lost jobs, all their savings, and much more.

Solace ensures that no one is helpless while their loved ones suffer in pain

Solace aims to provide affordable medical, psychological and social help to rare condition patients and their families. It started in Thrissur, Kerala in 2007 and now has 10  centres and a dedicated team of people who care for rare condition patients. From counseling family members to extending financial aid, Solace is like a ray of hope for hundreds of people suffering from rare condition. They also provide rare medicines for children suffering from Thalassemia, Nephrotic syndrome, Hormone Deficiency, and Hepatitis B.

“Apart from medicines, these families that we help live in terrible conditions. Their roofs are leaking and there is just one bed in their small hut. More often than not, their other children don’t get the care they need because their parents are too busy looking after their sick child.”

Solace is working day and night to help these struggling parents educate their healthy kids, pay their rents, repair their houses, and most importantly, give them dry ration kits that last them for at least a month. All this will help them focus only on their child while the rest is taken care of.

They also provide livelihood opportunities for the mothers and make them financially independent. Sheeba points out that this is essential for single parents who can’t go to work but need the constant flow of cash to look after their child battling a dangerous disease. As primary caregivers, these mothers are exhausted and overwhelmed. True to its name, Solace provides them respite and a chance to live their lives comfortably for a few days.

Since 2007, they have impacted over 4000 lives, help them reach out to many more

Sheeba knows the pain of losing a child - she has vowed to not let any other mother go through the same. She has turned her pain into inspiration and works relentlessly to help these people who have no one to support them. Solace wants to take care of 2000 families in need by giving them dry ration kits and medicines. You can donate groceries and medicine and join them in their mission.

“Our monthly expenses run in lakhs and it is getting more and more difficult to do all this on our own. I have always believed in the power of humanity so here I am, appealing to all of you to save these brave children battling dangerous diseases. Your support will mean a lot to us.”
