The Corona Pandemic has hurt the livelihoods of thousands of daily wage workers. It has deprived thousands of them of working and feeding their family. As a nationwide lockdown was put into place, a quarter of India, almost 190 million daily wage laborers were stranded. Migrant laborers who have come to cities in search for a better life are stuck with no transport and no means of survival. The lockdown wreaked havoc in metropolitan cities like Hyderabad. Thousands of workers resorted to walking down the highways back to their native villages with the fear of starvation.

The Corona has destroyed the lives of these families to such an extent that the cannot even eat a bowl of rice for a single meal.

Without work or food, how can we survive? We can only eat if we work”,

said Ravi, a mason from Hyderabad.

Like Ravi, many families from marginalized communities survive only when they get paid. These families aren’t fortunate like corporate employees, who can sit and work from home and stock their cupboards with food. For these labourers, on some fortunate days, they might add a few lentils and have some extra rice for a second meal. But, that’s it.

These are the toughest times for families from marginalized communities. They can only survive if they manage to work and earn for that day.

We don’t even have Ganji(a rice stew) to feed our children",

said Shanthamma, a domestic worker in Hyderabad.

While millions of workers aren’t sure of how they’ll get their next meal. Thousands of doctors and health care workers have been battling this crisis on the front lines. These doctors have taken an oath to protect and save human lives. However, there is a drastic shortage of medical equipment such as face masks, face shields, hand gloves & hand sanitizers for doctors, nurses and healthcare workers.

Amid the lockdown, thousands of stray dogs are starving. Earlier, these dogs used to rely on passersby for their meals. These innocent dogs need your help to survive. They’re unable to survive the lockdown as they don’t have any source of food or water.
